My Nine Day Old Pit Bull!

Alright, I understand. My dad had to house my dog for me for a year before I could find suitable living arrangements for us. He was heartbroken when I finally got my first house. You'll have to post pictures of your puppy when you finally get to see the litter.

I've spent most of the day looking into supplies I'll be needing and a large portion of today reading Cesar's book. It's such a good read. I'm loving it. Also, on amazon, I found an excellent teething toy that goes in the freezer. I only had to pay shipping, so it's like I got fifty percent off. I'm looking into kennels now, too. If anyone in the states has a small one they could send to me, I'd really appreciate it!

I think I've picked out a few good candidates for names. All my dogs have middle names, but these are first names only, unless the middle name is also listed. Throw out suggestions if you would like. These are the names I'm going to keep in mind when I go to meet the puppy for the first time. I won't name her officially until I meet her and get a good feel for her personality.

Huxley Jane
Sparrow
Love
Scout
Tonks

Middle name ideas would be much appreciated!

Well here are a few of the suggestions we came up with for ours before settling on Pepper:
Lexie
Rosie
Ruby
Tilly
Tia
Bella
Ours will have just Pepper and then our surname (at the vet's). Freddy gets his own mail when it's vaccination time! ROFL

It's absolutely driving me insane that I don't have my puppy yet. I was offered another female from another litter from a different friend of mine, but her dogs are living with her ex-husband, and he's being really ridiculous about them. It looks like I'll just be getting my girl from the original litter. Not that I mind of course! I'm thinking about going back home to Jackson in maybe two weekends, so I'll get to meet the whole litter then. I'll be sure to take plenty of pictures. They should be about six weeks old. I only have four weeks until I can go get her! I'm waiting until after my finals to pick her up.

I've got almost all my supplies too. I just need another training lead, a new bed, and maybe a basket full of new toys. And I have to puppy-proof my house, which may be complicated around the fish tanks because of all the wires and equipment. I'm considering baby gates. It just seems like it is taking too long! May 11 is too far away.

It's going to be May 5th for us! I can't wait! lol

I'm meeting her this Friday or Saturday! I'm bringing a bag of vaccinations for all the puppies, nail clippers, and Huxley's collar. I'm trimming all the puppies' nails, giving them shots, deworming them, and making sure that Huxley is mine. Her current parents told me they've been calling her by her name for me. She'll already know it when I go get her. I think her ears are opened now too. I'll probably give the whole litter their first bath, too. I miss raising puppies. If I could, I would just foster pregnant dogs and raise their litters until they are old enough for new homes. I love it.

Are you a vet, attibones? Wouldn't be able to give our own vacs here in UK - I don't think we'd be able to get hold of them for a start.
I've registered Ginger with our vet today and she'll be going for her first vac. and exam a week after we get her to make sure she's well before they give her anything. I know she is well so far, as I've seen her twice already and will probably see her every week until we can bring her home with us. We've been saying her name a lot so that Freddy gets used to it too and her "mum" is calling her Ginger for us so she gets used to it. Have bought a collar and lead today along with some things for them both to chew  - a family that chews together, stays together! lol
Don't forget to take some pics whilst you are there!!

I'm not a vet, but I do work part time in a vet clinic. I take care of the kennels, cleaning up poo, giving water and food, bathing, medicating, holding dogs for shots, grooming. My sister is a vet tech at the same clinic. I know most of my stuff from her, as one of the vets really irritates me. I'm deaf in one ear, and he knows it, so he intentionally tries to get my attention while he's on my right side (the side with no hearing). And because I'm so squeamish, I don't do surgeries and shots, but I've watched a few spats and neuters. I've also assisted with X-rays, and I know how to recognize and stop a canine seizure.

My sister has access to our medical cabinet and, because she works full time, is able to get them for free. I would have to pay seventy percent. I have no intention to be a vet. I much prefer writing. Regardless, it comes in handy when getting puppies. My doctors know she's coming, and I can probably get her spayed for cheap.

What sort of chews do you give your dogs? I'm a huge fan of bully sticks, myself. They can last several weeks for puppies, and they don't cause internal blockage or stomach upset as with rawhides. I also give ice cubes. Satisfies the urge to chew, hydrates, soothes gums, and is free!

You're lucky to have access to those supplies! Over here even some flea treatments are only available on prescription!
Freddy loves Dentastix which as the name implies is supposed to help clean teeth. Still have to brush his occasionally tho.
Just bought a couple of 100% nylon bones that have a "marrowbone" flavoured centre that they can squeeze out.
Freddy does get hide chews as well and they keep him occupied for all of 15 minutes before they have disappeared! He's lethal with indestructable toys too - perhaps I should loan him out as a product tester! lol

I like the nylon bones too, but I prefer the all natural bully sticks. I'm one hundred percent sure that my dog won't choke on them, and I know that the materials are safe for ingestion. Nothing pleases a dog's tummy quite like bull pizzle.

I got in touch with Huxley's humans. I'm going to meet her on Sunday. She (Barbara) tried to get me to take the puppy home on Sunday, but she's only going to be five weeks old. She and her litter mates need Mama for a little longer. Barbara is up to her neck in pit bulls. Her dog had six puppies. I plan to take plenty of pictures (of the whole litter) and a million more of my girl. I'm so excited! I sort of wish that I could take Huxley home this weekend, but I really want her to have all her manners. She needs this time with her mother and her siblings so that she can have a good start on socialization. My Theodore came to me at five weeks (too young) and is extremely co-dependent. We have no idea what happened to his mother, though. He was found on the side of the road with his brother. Anyway, May 11 is still my pick-up day, when she'll be eight/nine weeks. This waiting is going to kill me.

I know exactly how you feel. We would have loved to bring her home the first time we saw her, but as you say they need to learn socialising first. We're counting the days too! 17days to go!! Woohoo!

24 days for us. I'm dying. Still, I need these twenty-four days to finish the semester. I have to pull my grades up (had a tough semester), find a new job (I pretty much only get called in when the other techs are sick), and take my finals. My last exam may actually be on the eighth of may. If that is the case, then I might be able to get her a little earlier.
