Once im settled in my new house in august im going to buy a new tank (between 200 and 300 litres) and need ideas for stocking..going to have a few live plants in the tank along with a couple of caves, rocks, bogwood and maybe a bubble curtain.

Speicies i'd like are harlequin rasbora (8-12) bronze or another type of corys (4-6) and cherry shrimp (7)

That should leave lots of room for other fish. I'd like something different from plain tetras and danios etc but have no idea what is compatable.which species of cichlids are "community fish"

How about rainbows? They are increadibly beautiful when they are mature, and are compatible with the other stock you want.

On second look I don't think that the shrimp would make it once the rainbows are large enbough to eat them.

Another option with the fish, but not the shrimp, are rainbow cichlids, Herotilapia multispinosa. They only get to 4 or 5 inches long and actually do make rather nice community fish. You must be aware that they love their greens though. That means that all plants will get shorter quickly and many cannot survive their appetites.

My Herotilapia.
