Hi,

Ive had my tank for about 3 weeks with fish in.

Did a fishless cycle etc before stocking.

Now all my fish seem to be swimming on the top of the water. I am going to do a water change tomorrow. Ive done 1 already since having fish in.

My fish are:-

1 x male guppy
2 x female guppys
1 x male dalmation molly
1 x female dalmation molly
1 x male swordtail
2 x female swordtails
1 x male fighter
1 x redtail black shark
1 x clown loach
1 x plec

Any help would be grateful!

Thanks

Chris

if they are swimming at the top, sounds like an oxygen issue. Use a small powerhead, the filter outlet, or an airpump and air stone to agitate the surface of the water. This will promote O2 and CO2 exchange and should make the fish more comfortable :good:

Just wondering too.. what size is this tank?

What are your water stats? Whoa..wait. I just checked on a site and it said 55 litre is 14.5 U.S gallons? Is that right? If so I believe you are seriously!! overstocked! I calculated around 47"inch (fully grown) of fish and thats not including the Plec (don't know what species you have). The rule of thumb to go by is 1inch of fish per gallon. You can overstock some if you do regular water changes and cleaning and the such but that is way too overstocked! I hope I am soooo wrong (just woke up and brain is fuzzy :p ) and some one with more experience comes along and corrects me. You have to tell us your water stats ie:ammonia/nitrite/nitrate levels..

dz your right... that is overstocked.. especially since the plec is most commonly a common...

just wondering too... is "Male fighter" mean a beta? because they should not be kept with other tropical species... they can be considered coldwater fish, though below 65 or 70 and they really won't do well, and with their large finniage, they can't compete with other fish for food so will eventually starve in a community set-up
