My JD was a very social fish. She would come out to the front every time I came near. Now she never leaves her cave. Is this normal behavior for them?

I would keep a close eye on her, remove the cave for a day if necessary. Any change in behaviour needs monitoring, she maybe just full of eggs and could be staying quiet to either re-absorb them or she has spawned on her own, which can sometimes happen with female cichlids.

You have some nice fish BTW :)

Crap! That's one thing I'm afraid of. The convict hasn't been hiding for awhile now and he used to keep his distance...

Just a suggestion, remove the male convict for a couple of days or so if possible, see if that makes her come out of hiding. Male convicts are little monsters for breeding, they will attempt to breed with anything. I ended up with a rotkeil severum x convict !! it maybe the male has been harrassing her to spawn regardless of species.

I would have to drain the entire tank to catch him. I named him Barry Sanders for a reason. I've seen him jump out of the water- backwards. I'm outclassed and I know it. I gave up a few months ago.

If he jumps out and you have carpets, i would almost feel inclined to try that, if its to save his life from getting killed in the tank.

No I tried herding him to bail, that's actually how I got him to jump backwards (seriously didn't know fish could do that) Originally I was worried about his welfare and attempted to get him out. I did drain the entire tank and couldn't find him. I assumed he was eaten and was quite shocked to see him in the morning (he folded himself up inside a hollow decoration that I would've assumed was impossible) Nope I can't catch him and the JD's attempts are a lot  like watching a cow chase a squirrel. Actually I have a different kind of problem now. He's put on quite a bit of size QUICK. They're almost the same size! I really REALLY don't want hunchbacked sparkly striped ill tempered hybrids that no one wants. I'm thinking about getting a big pleco....

A big plec wouldnt do any good if your thinking one would eat the eggs, my big fella (he must have been 16-17" at the time) never touched eggs. Now a black ghost knife is usually a pretty good egg eater, but your best option if they did spawn would be to just remove the eggs by hand.

I've always wanted a knife fish but their feeding requirements are a little too much for me at the moment. Will my khuli's eat eggs and fry?

They'll definitely eat the eggs of cave brooders/scatterers.

Barry Sanders freaked out the other day and attacked everyone and everything in the tank. He managed to corner the JD which is at least twice his size. He didn't do any damage but she was really pale and stressed. By the time I found my big net he shredded half of my plants as well. The only reason I was able to catch him was he actually attacked the net. While he was clamped (yes clamped) on the rim of the small net -I scooped him up in the big one AND twisted it in time.
Eviction served!

finally got my stand finished and I finally set up the 90 ( in december )

it still won't let me upload pics

My E.B.A. male rocky

his lady friend Adrien- I originally just wanted to buy her but he jumped into the net with her at the pet store and the guy threw him in for free because he was half dead. They're both looking a whole lot better

My midas is still adjusting to the new tank. He was terrified of the bubbles for the first week - now he loves them.
