My New Tank

as i am new to fish keeping i dont wanner spend loads and loads i have had a quick look on ebay now i know the fluval u3 in pets at home is £40.00 and on ebay i can get the same one brand new for £29.00 with free postage but if something gose wrong with it then i would have to mess about where if i get it from pets at home i can just take it back and exchange it with the same one.

is it safe buying filters second-hand

i do like the look of the external but just bit to much i think for me starting out is there any other ones out there i am edgeing for the u3 atm like

The brand new filter's off eBay will be fine, just make sure you buy it off a reputable eBayer. And look if they have sold the filters before and see if you can look at feedback.

James.

thanks james its a big saving from 40.00 to 28.00 so fluval u3 will be more then fine for my tank then aye.

the next question is how to create a natural enviroment look for the tank

I have bought second hand without any problems before, but I usually buy from reputable members on forums or people with 100% feedback on eBay.

Good evening Danielmeynell...

When i upgraded from my 30L to my 110L i was given great advice on a number occasions with regards to internal/external filtration. In my opinion you should go external. Yes, they are more expensive..but for a reason. You say they 'might be a little too much for you at the moment', but believe me they really are simple and straighforward to set-up, run, clean and mantain! plus, a good quality internal filter will use up a fair amount of internal space... I have an Eheim Aquaball in my 30L tank now, which really dows restrict the amount of inhabitants, well..what you could have in a 30L anyway!

In my 110L tank i use a Fluval 205. Very reliable and quite. as it comes as a 'cannister' you can unplug, unclip and take the whole thing to the sink without spilling a drop. Try doing that with an internal one!

Hope this helps,
Terry.

That depends on the fish you keep, can you remind me of what you settled on?

No, sorry.. I have so much spare equipment nowadays that I rarely follow sales.
