Hi, the pictures below are of my tank I have had around 6 months. I was new into fish keeping when I got the tank but the tank itself has actually been set up for around 2 years.

My friend had the tank and could no longer put his time into it so he sold it to me, I've not done a lot to the tank in terms or changing anything or adding fish because I wanted to keep it as same as it was for the first few months. Now they have had time to "settle" I think im ready for changing things in the tank around but first I need some help identifying the fish as my friend was very unspecific about the fish in there (I basically got told there was a few cichlids a couple of clown loach and a few plecs)

First heres my tank - fluval venezia 180l, Fluval 205 External Filter.

The only Cichlid I knew - my Frontosa

I dont know what kind of Cichlid this is, its bright orange

Ive no clue with this either, Ive 3 of these in the tank, they are usually white but I have noticed them turn slightly pink at times

Plec, Active at night but Ive been told it will calm down and come out during the day

any help with the above would be great, as with any comments on the tank. I want to make it a more natural tank with getting rid of the plastic plants (and maybe the ship) and putting some wood or something there. Cheers

Welcome to the forums. I have the exact same tank! :good:

Now for the bad news... you need to either rehome the fish or buy a bigger tank! The frontosa will get huge mate. No help with the others though mate. Your frontosa looks to be a fine specimin though considering it is in such a small tank! :look:

Thanks, I know the frontosa is going to get miles too big for the tank, and im going to have to give him up soon.........Shame because I love that fish

Could you not get a bigger tank? I think most of the fish you have in your tank will outgrow it by the looks of it.

Possibly, Like I say ive only been doing this for 6 months and the Idea of upgrading so quickly is pretty daunting, may be something I have to do if all the fish become too big for the tank.

the bottom one is a common/sailfin plec, a near on 2 foot poo machine. unless you are greatly attatched to it, worth trying to get rid of it. you'll probably have to give it away, they're not worth much as they are difficult to rehome due to size.

Haha that makes a lot of sense. He said that his LFS seemed desperate to sell him it to him.

Yep the first is this but you knew that: http://www.aquaticstoyourdoor.co.uk/Frontosa-Cichlid.html

I think the orange one may be this http://www.aquaticstoyourdoor.co.uk/golden-zebra.html

Or this http://www.aquaticstoyourdoor.co.uk/Red-zebra-cichlid.html

And the white one maybe this http://www.aquaticstoyourdoor.co.uk/Albino-Ice-Blue-Cichlid.html

I'm no expert I just looked them up on that website and compared pics, just throught I'd try and help.

Nice tank but it is a bit of a mixed up stocking he's left you with. African cichlids shouldn't be housed with general community fish such as the Black Phantom tetras I can see and yeah most of the stock will outgrow the tank including those clown loaches.

Would make a nice planted community tank if you fancy going down that route?

I like the idea of a planted tank I just need to read up on looking after plants.

I think he was well aware that he stocked the tank up with a strange mix. I asked him why he has the 3 smaller fish in there and then a bunch of cichlids and he said "I got them first and they seem happy"

Thanks marieukxx for the help, I think your right with the Albino red top, everything on that page seems to correspond to how they act.

Thanks for all the help, now to make the tank my own: :good:)

Also thanks for the link to that site Marieukxx. I found that site ages ago looking around and thought it was good but no matter what I search I could never seem to find it again :good:

Maybe the bright orange one is this:

Sorry I was at work until now, I dont think its is that as the head doesnt seem to add up. It looks like the Red Zebra but more orange than the yellow
