My New T Bars - Pics And A Vid Too !

RadaR, yeah I've got a pair of Blue Acaras in with a Featherfin Syno so I'm used to them getting harassed a bit. I've got a bunch of wood in both tanks though so both Synos can get away and hide. The Synos can hold their own if needed so I'm not worried.

saboy, I can't get the link you posted to work..

The link works for me If i click it

That's weird, now the link works for me too..but I swear it didn't earlier this morning lol :look:

The fish in the link look exactly like my pair. When I watched your video I thought the first fish was a male and the second was female but I guess maybe it's kinda hard to judge by that video since they are swimming quite fast. Take a few more pics if you can and maybe we can see them better.

I'm gonna upload some pics of my pair soon! :)

I will get some more pics in a bit

I was watching them today and saw the smaller two, displaying and flarring ! It was cool for the 8 seconds it lasted .

From what it looks like now atm, its the bigger one in the picture in my first post is like the one thats gonna be left out !

If the smaller two are becoming a pair you will see them displaying towards eachother and that includes a lot of body shaking and head shaking. A lot of times both male and female will find a rock, piece of wood, or leaf and kinda bite it a little and shake their heads. Also you will see them flicking their dorsal fins at eachother. They will also flare at eachother.

Displaying and flaring can also mean two males though kinda struting their stuff to eachother. You'll just have to watch and see. If the smaller two start spending a lot of time together like swimming side by side nearly all the time that is a pretty good sign they are a pair.

The fish in the pic you posted has the coloring of a male and I will bet that in a month or so his dorsal fin will get more pointy.

Here is one of the others, its hard to get a nice pic as they also swim away when I come close,
dsc07049ub2.jpg

So you may not see thier fins nicely,

Its was easier to get the pic of my bigger one as he comes to the front of the tank all the time, and also have his fins fully out

I got 2 more vids,

Im using a different host, so it should be better

Vid 1

Second, I tried to get of the other 2

Vid 2

After watching the vids I am pretty sure that all three of them are male. :/

You might have some trouble on your hands soon too if you don't add some females to the tank or a lot more hiding spots. In the first video I noticed one of the smaller ones swimming with his fins clamped and kinda away from the bigger one and that usually shows that he is being submissive towards the bigger male. Be careful if you notice him hiding behind the filter or off by himself fins clamped. That's a sure sign that there is trouble and you need to get him out of the tank ASAP before he gets killed by the more dominant fish.

Try and get to your lfs and get a few females. Look for ones like the female in the pics I posted and the female in the pic of the link you posted. That is blue with gold with no red on the fins.

All Males ? Thats what I thought ! Oh well, ummm, yea there the smaller ones do seem to have their fins clamped sometimes,

I will have to go to the lfs and have a look again or find another lfs

Anyways, I just done a check up on the ammonia and nitrite and nitrate in the tank, the ammonia is at 0.25, nitrite at 0 and nitrate is under 40.

The ammonia ? Is this reading fine ? I know there should be no ammonia at all, but the filter needs it to grow to accomodate the new 2 sajicas. I am gonna remove the 2 danios i have in there to have less ammonia.

nice fish m8, how big are they at the mo? u got a nice cave for them-i always like to see fish using there caves. hope u get a nice couple of femails for ure boys-will be great :good:

Thanks blue acara,

They are all rouchly 2 inches now, Will be very nice to see them when theya re 6 inches ! in the colour they are now.

Yea, Im gonna sort out a tank soon because of the bullying

Yea I cut the hole in the plant pot using a drill, then using now pliers to break the sharp bits off then smooth it a bit. Otherwise if i had just used a hammer and screwdriver it would have cracked in harlf

yer when these fish get to there full size thell look amazing. hopefully ure male will have a nice big hump thing on his head (i think those lumps look v cool) and will be a great aquarium

Your domonant male will probably get a hump on his head even at 2 inches. MIne has one. He looks so cool and beautiful.

Personally I think the fish in the picture at the top of this post is a male and i also believe the fish at the bottom of this post to be a male too... however i could be wrong, a close up would be better to distinguish the sex of them... they are still juveniles by the looks of them and may not have there real sexual maturity colours, they are much easier to tell apart when they are slightly bigger.

My latest batch of fry are all coming to 5 months old and at 1.5" and such they still havent shown their sexual colouration yet, they look like males due to red/blue flecks on the fins.

all 3 of mine all have lots of red on thier fins, from the link I posted, they must be all males
