I switched from gravel to sand yesterday for a more natural look and increased the amount of rocks. It's only play sand from Argos, but it does the trick nicely! it's a nice colour for sure. I had what i think is straight Vallis in the other tank so i took it out and split it into 6 and planted them in the new setting. Haven't bothered with any other plants for the time being, any suggestions would be very much appreciated. All the community fish that were in with them before have now been moved to another tank but the trade off was a pair of Kribs so still not perfect, but better. (i think) Also had to place a golden sucking loach in with them as he was fighting with my Firemouths and winning so i removed him.

Considering a group of checker barbs for something further up the tank. Still not 100% sure though. There's only one crappy picture from my phone which didn't like the brightness of the new setup lol.

Looks smart. I personally would just keep just tangs in there. Are your fairies in there?

Yeah the fairies are in there too. I haven't got another tank to put the kribs in so it was either the kribs or the community fish that went in with them. Will keep an eye for another smaller tank for the kribs. The female still has a dark purple belly and they seem to be doing ok at the moment against the burgeoni's. Lol.

Everyone seems ok, the burgeoni are still in charge, the fairies don't seem to bother the kribs which is good. The tank is 125 litres, 2 and a half foot. When I upgrade my other tank these will be going into the old one and I may add some leleupi too.

Really enjoying the setup now, loads better!! Definitely recommend the play sand. I rinsed it in the bucket until the water ran clear then added it straight to the tank. Filled it back up with water with some tap safe, placed two heaters in there to warm it up then added the fish back in about 6 hours later. Going to clean the filter out later on as I bet there is some sand in it now. The tank is more or less crystal clear now.

Looks minnnt mate.

The Kribs would love it in there.
Plenty of places to hide, but no good for fry.

Community fish might look good in there.

Good job mate.
Liking it.

Pete

I had community fish in with them before I added the burgeoni's but a few of them ended up with some of their tails having pieces missing. Also everyone flammed me for it. the kribs seem to be enjoying it so far, just need to keep an eye on things to make sure nothing gets out of hand. Thinking checkered or cherry barbs aswell... anyone advise me?

Cheers.

I have a krib and 2 cherry barbs, I did have 4 but sadly the cherry barbs have started to die off cause they are getting on a bit now. They always seem to get on no problem and they have never bothered each other, which is saying something as my krib likes to think she owns the tank

My opinion, cherry barbs and krib, thats quite a good mix but thats just me.

I would like to have a group of something, but unsure what. Was thinking barbs as they seem to be quite hardy but i am still unsure. The top of the tank is empty which is annoying me a little.

All depends on what your after. Id keep it all tangs. What size tank are they gonna go in? id look into more aggressive tankmates to suit, lelupi, maybe tret. Im not sure a group of cyps will be hard enough. Depends how much you want to spend aswell.

So what would you suggest then? I'm open to suggestions. Like I say, if I could find another smaller tank then I would remove the kribs but until then I have no option but to put them in with the others.

For shoaling tangs i think your knackered so barbs maybe a shout but as above a group of lelupi may be ok in a bigger tank. I wouldnt put any more cichlids in though until you do change tank. Then 3 species would prob be enough. A single tret in a larger tank aswell may be ok aswell, it will prob depend whos gonna breed etc and how aggressive its gonna get.

Yeah i'm not going to add any more cichlids, currently looking for a new home for the Kribs (not selling, just another tank) so then there will only be two species. I won't be adding the Leleupi until they're in a bigger tank either. Is there a particular Barb you think would be better than the other?

Very very nice looking, think your Tangs will be happy in there :good:

Anorak question alert
Can I ask roughly what are the dimensions of that floating fry cage you have there ?
Cheers, Sean
