Hi i just bought a pair of new Ram chiclids for my community planted tank....one is fine and swimming around ...how ever just starting today the other is in a corner and is breathing rapidly ...is this because of some sort of condition or is the fish still nervous...what please heLP!!

Are their any other signs of illness or just heavy breathing?

Did you spend a decent amount of time checking them over before buying? Looking at other fish in the surrounding tanks etc.

I looked at the display tank for several minutes and hand picked the fish .... i only picked the best colored and healiest ..... theres no mucus build up or white spots ...the color on it is still pretty good but slightly dark...it is hiding under the heater behind a plant and is breathing very rapidly...is this ok for a new ram or if not ....what can i do

If you've checked them over before buying and there are no obvious problems then there isn't a whole lot you can do.

If it's breathing rapidly then there could be something wrong, or it could just be a bit stressed.

You could try to increase aeration by putting an airpump on the tank, or lifting the filter a bit to create lots of bubbles.
But other than that, short of taking it back to the shop for a replacement, there isn't much you can do.
