got them on saturday so left them a day to get used to the enviroment, and fed them some frozen bloodworm, which went down very well with them(couldnt get live ones as the shop didnt get there order)

i also have a little tank full of snails to feed the puffers on, but was wondering if the puffers need to be a certain size before you can give them snails

the puffers are about 1.5cm at the moment

Cute! we need pics! :D

I'm considering getting a dwarf puffer for my little 27 litre tank :) I'm told I should only go with one, but I don't want him/her to be lonely.

generally if the snails shell is as big or smaller than the puffer's eye then it will be able to crush it. If its a big too big then the puffer will probably just suck it out of its shell.

jeesh

these are real small dwarf puffers

they are quite happy with the frozen bloodworm for now as ive just fed them again(pics to follow) but my snails look a little bit bigger than the eye

How many snails on average would make a single feeding? Just interested to know how much I'd need to put into breeding snails ;)

I have no idea how much a puffer will eat.

27 Litres is about 6 Imperial Gallons, so ideally one is a better number for that tank, but you could do 2 aslong as its heavily planted and has plenty of places for them to explore and avoid each other when necessary. They are cute fish, but dont let that fool you, they are avid and aggressive hunters.

also, how often should i be feeding my new puffers?

im feeding them on frozen bloodworm but they seem to be starving each day

i dont like leaving the dead bloodworm in for more than an hour or so, but im not sure if they need feeding everyday or not

They are little beggars when it comes to food  It is recommended to feed them once a day. I feed mine worm by worm using a pipette (one of those 3ml plastic droppers). They come and grab the worms straight out of the dropper. The very few worms that get missed are taken care of by their tank mates snails and shrimps. Depending on the size of the worms you feed them, one or two will fill one DP easily so don't put too many into the tank.

PS. Love the cute little face of your puff :D

i barely see mine now i have provided them with a planted tank

As soon as they get more used to their new environment, they'll come right out to you when it's dinner time. Mine are always "jumping" up and down when they see me and my pipette. Have you got names for your DPs yet?

not yet, they dont have distinctive enough markings yet

i have 3 that have bold markings, and 2 that are very light

can i just say as well, these puffers are nasty little pieces of work when being fed

they now have a brawl between themselves each time i feed them which im not too happy about
