Hi Guys

Just wanted to share some pics of the new shrimp I got for my birthday on Friday (20th), which you all so lovingly remembered...

...no wait, that's wrong! Not a single one of you said happy birthday, so I'm very disappointed in you all and I will deal with you later!

  For shame...

Anyhoo, as always, I got my shrimp from easishrimp.co.uk as a birthday pressie to myself. I ordered 5 each of Crystal Red and Crystal Black Bees - I think I ordered the S-Grade of Black ones.

But, get this...AJ upgraded my Crystal Reds to Pure Redlines and gave me an extra Crystal Black and they are all absolutely beautiful creatures!

Have a look at this Redline...

Here's some more including the Crystal Black Bees too...

Sorry about the garish blue gravel...I promise I'll get rid of it!!!

Funny, but they actually look good against that gravel. But still get rid of it. ;)

Lovely looking shrimp.

Happy birthday for the 20th - didnt have a clue and don't know how to tell on the forum :)

Definitely remove the gravel :good:

Very very nice indeed!

Not considered those, might suggest it to my GF and see if she likes them for her BiOrb Flow set up.

Where did you get those from? LFS or online order?

BTW Happy belated birthday!

Not a clue it was your birthday, as this forum does not send reminders of birthdays, not like FB anyway when they send birthday reminder for people I don't even like!!

Beauty shrimp mate. Toss that gravel though. :p

I have a real soft spot for crystals both black and red (black are harder to get over here), but alas they hate my summers. Great looking shrimp and best of luck with them.

And to think I was throwing out my cereal marshmallows...shrimp substrate here we come!

Yeah, they do look OK on it but it's just not ideal for them and not at all becoming of a natural looking environment!

Which leads me onto my next question...I'm looking at 2 types of Shrimp substrate just now - Shirakura Red Bee Sand or Ebi Gold Soil...anyone have any ideas about either of these?

Great looking shrimp, but the gravel has to go, they'd look great on black sand.
Btw crystal reds & crystal blacks will interbreed & eventually you'll end up with drab looking shrimp.
There's a chart here showing which shrimp can be kept together without cross breeding

Ah, didn't know about that for sure...I was led to believe the Black was the more dominant strain and the resulting shrimplets, if they cross, would be more Black than red. I'm honestly not all that bothered about breeding and keeping particular genetic lines, I'll let nature take it's course and just look after them the best I can.

Funny you should mention about drab colouring; I had 10 Sakura Fire Red shrimp and they had some shrimplets, some are colouring very nicely but there's 1 that's almost entirely colourless - it's quite odd looking, it's not even red enough to be seen as a cherry! I'll have a look at that link though, I do find that stuff very interesting. Thank you!
Thanks for the happy birthdays, I was just being cheeky anyway, I know it there's no reminders or anything, I was just jealous of TallTree's massive birthday thread... hehe!

I've not used it but I've read and heard good things about the Red Bee Sand and it certainly looks nice. To me it's similar to the Fluval shrimp substrate.

How are your shrimps doing?

Have you changed the substrate?

Time for an update methinks
