Sounds like you have it right. As far as water changes go, weekly is fine unless you see an ammonia or nitrite spike. You shouldn't since you are moving the filter media over but you still need to test daily just to be safe. If you don't ever get a reading for ammonia or nitrite, then its just weekly maintenance.

One other thing. You mentioned running the UV steilizer 4 hours a day to prevent algae. The sterilizer will only prevent free floating algae (diatoms) that are responsible for green water. It will only kill what passes through it and most algae isn't free floating but attached to plants, tank walls, etc. The sterilizer won't have any effect (or minimal at best) on other types of algae.

Here are my steps when setting up tank, hope you will like it and give me some nice suggestions ladies and gents.

Plants havent arrived yet from Malazia so i didnt place and set up my presurized co2 unit yet... in about 1 hour ill transfer my 4 neon tetra, 2 lack widow tetra and one plec in to my new tank (ive placed my old filter sponge media in to one of the sections in FLUVAL 305 so bacteria is there and will hae 2 hours to settle down..

Post some pics with fish tomorrow. Well hope you liked it coz im loving this tank (feels like chrismas came early he-he)

I like the wood and the lava rock. It will look very nice once you get the plants in.

It sure must have taken you a long time to set it up as Alex looks to have aged quite a bit in a couple of the pictures.

You certainly have an eye for aquascaping! Out of curiosity, do you happen to know the KH and pH of your tap water (assuming both your pictured tanks get the same source water.)

I've never seen a tank like that over here in the US. The tanks you people in the UK have are amazing. I love that stand and the curved glass.

:) Nice tank

you made a cover for it yet?

I havent just yet as im waiting for my brother to bring sone from filming sets where he works. And i noticed the cover is something i doo need ASAP coz of the dust from time to time and evaporation. Is there any place to get it cheaply in that size ive called Moplastics but they way too expensive.

I got a sheet of acyclic 4 foot from b&q for a tenner and made a cover in 5 min.
