My Neaon Tetra Died :(

my neon tetra was normal when i got him then a few months later i noticed he had a bent spine and looked really bad. but i thought he must of been ok because he was swimming fine and eating and things. then i looked in the tank this evening and there he was floating on the top of the tank :sad:

anyone know what it could of been?

Hiya, This is my first post and am relatively ne to keeping fish, well 3 years but i'm sure thats quite new for some. Anyway, i have heard of coldwater fish like goldfish whose spines bend because they are trying to swim in a tight space, but as it was a neon i can't imagine that a space could be to small. I'm sorry to hear about your neon, one of mine died a couple of days ago, i'm down to 4 now. Do you have anymore that to compare to. Sorry i couldn't be much help.

Did his red patch look bleached out.
Any lumps on the belly region that went to a point.
Any black lining around the red area.

well where his spine was bent it was reddish but more pinkish whiteish sort of colour.

Sounds like you could be dealing with ntd get you a link to see if any other fish are showing symtoms.

A neon isnt that much of a big deal. I get 1 inchers 10 for $10 AUD. Not that I buy them, well only for my angels to play around with. If you know what I mean.

sorry to join the discussion a bit late hope you to read this i think it could a couple of things one that she could of been pregnant and dint drop the eggs witch could of the put presure on the spine causing it to bend i meen did it look larger than others or bigger than when you brort it also it could of bin a inbred of meny genarations

So you keep fish but aren't particularly bothered what happens to them?. And you find Neons to be worthless?. Have you tried feeding your Angels flake food and frozen food, or do you feed them live fish purely for your own entertainment?.

oh sorry guys i 4got about my thread in here im usually in the livebearer section sorry. well no she didnt seem fatter than the others she was much smaller than the others actually but the disease thing matched up to my neon. but hmm not sure. my guppy died aswell the following week after from being old ! bless im

( u find neons worthless thats just mean you should care about your fish! i was sad about my lil guy dieing he was a gr8 lil fishy! some times miss his lil bent back swimming around
