Hi,

I'm at the equipment procurement stage for a Fluval Roma 125 tank...

upon reading the resource threads on 'externals' i have a shortlist:

Fluval 305
APS 1000EF
Tetratec Ex700
Eheim 2215

Aiming for medium planted community stocked , to be fishless cycled ofc and not rushing into anything!
Looking for any of the above filter advice please..

Thanks

Eheim, Fluval and Rena are the long-time established leaders in external cannister designs. Tetratec (a bit earlier) and now AllPond(APS) (just recently) are new to the market compared to the earlier three manufacturers. The Tetratec low price has enjoyed lots of popularity the last few years until a few more instances of leaking began to be reported. AllPond is too new to the scene to have any track record yet as far as I know. Fluval has had more leakage/breakage problems reported among members but not quite as much as Tetratec I don't think (these are all just forum guesstimates and have no basis in real statistics of course.) Rena (excluding their largest one) seem to have fewest breakages. Eheim are usually seen as the most all-out engineering/tech leaders and quietest but they are usually consistently the most expensive. Most all these product lines respond well to good owner care and maintenance!

If I were going to put a lot of plants in a Roma 125 I'd seriously consider the Eheim 2028 model.
