I put a green ropelight in my hood and this was how it looks, it's a bit brighter then the picture but it's just enough to make it look cool and so the fish aren't disturbed by it.

niiiice, i love mooon lights, how did u fasten it and where exactly, i think i could handle puttin in a rope light, but wireing in a led is too much work, im lazy

Yah me too, I've spent the last month working on this tank lol. Right now I have duck tape on it I was curious to see how it work look I'm going to fasten it tommorow with some clamps. Don't want the moisture coming off the tank wearing down the duck tape. :) I really prefer the green look, I know this sounds weird but it looks more natural than blue. :p Oh yah, I just went around the edge of the wood.. Let me take a pic real quick heh..

I still got some work to do to secure as I said it's a temp solution for tonight because I wanted to see what it looked like. :D

Ive had strange mysterious dreams of being in enviroments similar to the inside of your green lit tank..........

- Joel ;)

P.S. Im stealing that Idea!!!!

Go ahead steal and enjoy, I'm sure I'm not the first to think of it lol. :p

Doesn't the heat from the regular bulbs melt the coating on the rope light? What wattage regular lights do you have?

I don't have my lights on yet because I'm getting rid of an algae bloom in the water. My bulbs are only 30W, they don't get that hot I can hold my hand on the light and it doesn't even hurt so. :)

ooo, see that wouldnt work, because my tank has 2 four foot hoods instead, unless i just like put a small one on each

Hi..here are several types of lights on Ebay that people can buy if they have the correct light fixture or a glass hood. I'm not advocating any of these, just links for people to see what's out there. Some light fixtures have the moonlighting already built in. SH

PS..the rope light people don't advocate attaching it to lights or under hoods. SH

I don't know why people wouldn't "advocate" it as long as its waterproof and you keep the electrical cords away from the water like everything else. Also as long as your bulbs don't get too hot, there shouldn't be any problem.

hey there :D wow i think that is an awesome idea..in fact i was so inspired i went out today and got myself a blue roplight!!

the problem si tho..-_- aren't you afraid the plastic on the ropelight will melt if exposed to the regular tank light for so long? i know my tank light bulbs get REALLy hot... i can ese it melting hte plastic :S

I don't know but my bulbs don't get that hot to melt plastic because I can touch them and it doesn't hurt so... :D
