thought I might as well say he is up for sale, the details are in the buy sell swap board in the UK part.

Cheers chish

Nice aro, how comes the water levels so low?

lol no worries ace tis a dumb ass quote though eh lol, is that the quote from the guy who had a betta in a "hang on the wall tank"?

The water level is low because he lives on a second floor flat, and didn't want to risk the tank going through the floor. its in a 7ft tank at the mo, he is trying to sell the aro though so he can downgrade his tank.

oh sand is just normal play sand from howdens garden centre,

cheers chish

He needs to get rid of the aro quick its not in very good nick at all. Has a major case of DE and is looking stunted judging by the arch in its back he should really be giving it away big silver aros are nigh on impossible to sell.

7ft tank... so I'm gonna rough estimate the aro is 18" to 2ft abouts right now?

yeah its about 20 inches oxy

Hi Mark, Whats DE is that what is causing the arch in its back? - it might have been the way the pics taken, though you'll know more than me. Yeah I kinda of thougth it would have needed a bigger tank its part of the reason why he is getting rid of him.

Also the problem is where to move him to, being in Inverness there aren't that many places that can take him, if any. Any ideas would be good. ta. Oh forgot to ask, why are silver aros so hard to sell, is it because they are quite common as youngsters?

cheers

DE is short for Drop eye mate all arowana can suffer from it but its more common in silvers. Pretty much 95% of silver arowanas will end up with DE. It can be caused by a number of things people say from not feeding from the surface and looking down, to fatty food causing fatty deposits in the eye socket water quality etc etc. Personally I believe that its just in the genes of silvers and is not something that can be prevented although it can be delayed for quiet a while. CFC has a W/C silver and his has just started to get slight drop eye at about 30". Your location is not ideal to rehome the fish as you said you are out in the sticks so to say. The reason they are such hard fish to rehome is they are like £30 in shops for a 4-6" fish everyone goes out to buy the sticks them in a 6x2x2 or a 7x2x2 thinking that there tank is huge and do not realise the potential of this fish. Have a scount on aquarist classifieds there is always people trying to rehome them. My best bit of advice would be to your mate would be either get a big trop pond for it or put it on aquarist classifieds for free to good home and see if anyone with a big tank or pond will pick it up. Oh and when I say big put it this way my tank is 96x32x31 and I wouldnt house a silver.

Hi mark, sorry it took a while to respond, cheers for the info though. Just a wee update, Deep Sea World near Edinburgh are going to take him, they have a big amazonian set up they can put him into, so its good news, he should be well happy down there.

I'll bet he'll look great in a big public display tank. Beautiful fish arowana. I'd love to be rich tp house fish like that

glad to hear it going to a good home.....
iam also rehoming my male jaguar to my local sea life centre,,,,,
wouldnt take it back to the shop i brought him from after what they said the other day!!!
"well we can take it from you for free as these fish are ba@# and no one wants to buy these type of fish"
bearing in mind its a shop which specailise in cichlids, also that is where i brought him from then they said
"Yes he would go great with oscars that what people always keep these guys with,if you get any aggro which you will not, bring him back and we will exchange him",,then a while ago i first time they had prob i said to them and they said"hes aggresive because he needs a female and points at one in the tank marked at 45pounds!!!!!bearing in mind he knows my tanks size and stock and i reminded him that day"yep that would be fine"but i declined and walked away........so can see he wants to make me think hes helping me then mark it up around 50pounds<100% profit>
so sorry mate id rather give him away,,,,
