Got a 350L tank.

Going to go with Mbuna! :hyper:

Can't for the life of me decide which rock.

I really like Tuffa Rock as it is light and cheap and I can build up and up and up with it...

But don't know if it looks natural for Mbuna. Big Boulders would be much better I think, but a bit afraid.

Can anyone show me pictures of their tanks with Tuffa rock in ie. I really want to see how algae grows on it and if it lessens the whiteness of the rock. Does it look more natural over time?

Do Mbuna looked 'washed out' against it as opposed to darker rock?

Thanks!

i understand what you are going through. i did a similar thing back when i was dreaming about my dream tank. however in the end, i opted for something completely different and for my mixed cichlids and oddballs, went with a marine theme using TMC rock - artificial hand painted, these are not cheap tatty things, however they can be very expensive and come in various sizes and shapes, i siliconed the peaces together to form caves and dwelling places. the rock is expensive and ive spent circa £400 on the lot in this tank, almost as much as real live fuji rock lol, however the reason im showing you is so you get ideas of how to assemble your rock, whatever it is, get some silicone and be creative, heres a vid of my tank:-

WOW...the mix of fish you have in there is outstanding, they all get on ok?

That's a really beautiful tank, I don't think I would go 'full' (fake) marine but I would consider something semi marine maybe, with ocean and Tufa Rock.

Gawwwd, just don't know.

I had OceanRock in my old tank but i wouldnt have it again.. with it being white, it turned yellow (yes, not green!!, but yellow lol) with algae within a week or so. I really didnt like the look so i had to change them.. i got large brown river cobbles from B&Q and i love them, they look really well (alot cheaper too). :D

You got any pictures dude?

Got a B&Q Warehouse 2 minutes away...I'm always weary that something would look 'different' under the water? How much did you pay?

Thanks.

ps. I am heading away from Ocean Rock to be honest, had a look today in the LFS, doesn't look great.

in the main they all get on. you will always get fish pushing another around whatever you have, however they are pretty good actually.

i know the word 'fake' is not nice, however the rocks are good on the eyes, you would not know the difference between real of these fake ones, as i said, they are about has high grade fake as you can get, without looking tatty.

Ok, well with whatever would happen with OceanRock is gunna happen with Tuffa..

I got a picture in the 'members tank pic' thread of it before it turned bright yellow. Thats my old tank tho.. keep meaning to update it.

The RiverCobbles were somethin like £2.30 each. Imo, they actually look better under water than dry. :good:

Sorry dude, didn't mean to cause offence. I meant more like Marine being not the natural look for Malawis.

PS. I have fake wood and plants in my existing tank. I sell the plants...for a very poor living.

On another forum, this guy had his tank decorated with OceanRock, little fake marine-like plants scattered around and a bright blue background.. it was extremely colourful and very impressive looking. And he that stocked it with malawi's...

lol no offence caused post some pics when you sort it

Won't be for a few months yet, but will do.

Cheers.
