I'm so worried about my female guppy. She looks as if she is going to explode. Every day she gets bigger and bigger and her gravid spot is the biggest I have ever seen it.

Last night she was very hungry and quite aggressive and kept pushing my baby angel fish away whenever he came close.

She then hid in the ship wreck and looked like she was gasping for air (a symptom of labour) and pushing.

I said to hubby that we will have fry by the morning. I got up at 4am to check her, no fry. Get up at 7 30am, no fry.

I am worried she is having trouble pushing them through.

What can I do to help ease her labour on and stop her from dying due to complicated birth?

Also, are guppies in pain during labour? I have been in labour myself and wouldnt wish that pain on anyone, and have to go through it again in 3 months, so last night I found I couldnt sleep properly because I thought she must be hurting so much.

Thanks

First Question, How warm is your tank? if its below 80 degrees F then i would kick it up to 85-87 and see if she drops, also, it could be that she doesnt have a good hiding spot to have her babies, and she wont have them out in the open

I usually kept my temp around 80 and had floating plants(plastic) attached in one corner where most of mine had theirs. This way I could see them, and I would know if there was a problem.
How many and what kind of other fish are in the tank? She may have too much company, and be a bit stressed. How big is the tank? Sometimes a bubble bar helps. It is kind of like a massage for the stomach and other parts that hurt... also more air... mine would hover in it when they were having troubles or taking a long time. I also had a plant attached at the end where the air tube is. (just outside the bubbles)
Honey... you said you have been through labour... same thing!! She is pushing something big through something small...YES... it hurts!!
If you move her now it could cause more problems though.
It has been a while now... how is she doing?
I hope maybe some of this helps a little. Let us know how she is doing...
Also check your water to make sure it is at good levels. That could cause extra stress also. :good:

Defo do not raise the temp to above 80!!!

This will not help in any way only stress them by putting the temperature to high.
She will give birth when she's ready, it's not very stress full and freathing fast is not a sign of labour.
It's more likely that their not enough oxygen in the water and extra aeration will help.

Guppies usualy give birth at night, so keep her quite and dark and se'll get there nateraly.
you say u got an angel, well that gonna to be well feed, as they love to eat guppy fry.

Guppies give birth every 28-32 days, so if u note this time next month you'll no she'll be close.
