lol! I should listen to you guys more :p no actually that's a bad idea i'll end up like the man who came to get the barbs yesterday -3 different setups in the living room
your already him ;p youv been bitten by the bug.. theres no going back now

I suppose I have  I don't have room for a bigger tank at the moment but yes I would love to expand my tank as it's overstocked at the moment until the platy are rehomed. They don't appear stressed or anything and are swimming about. The guppies seem to like the top of the tank-they are swimming around with their heads skimming the top of the water they aren't gasping or anything. I will try and get a video but in the mean time-here's the smallest baby. I just love him  hes so tiny!

Do you plan to add anything else once the platy are rehomed? The 340 is 40L, right? I'm sure you'd be able to fit something else in there quite nicely with the 4 guppies, especially if they turn out to be all males so they won't breed. How about a group of dwarf cories for some action on the bottom-middle areas of the tank?
I wouldn't do a betta as linked on the previous page, they don't usually get along with guppies. Bettas regularly mistake them for fellow male bettas and can quite litterally tear the guppies to pieces, but most certainly kill/injure them. Occasionally, you find a betta which does seem to get along, but they tend to be far and few between.
A group of microrasbora might work with the guppies, if you were interested I'd definitely look into ember tetra, chilli rasbora and galaxy rasbora.

Hi thanks for the reply. The chilli and galaxy rasboras are such beautiful colours!
I had a bit of an issue the last few days. I woke up on saturday morning and the tiniest little guppy was dead. I took a water sample to pets at home where I got him and they tested the water. I discovered that the ammonia was far too high in the tank. It was dark green.

I went home and I did a 90% change then the next day I did a 20% change and that's it at 0.

Big sigh of relief. I did notice the female platy who was pregnant-what I thought was pregnant with the black mark on either side-doesn't have the mark anymore. This was a pic of her before the barbs were rehomed.
IMAG1608.jpg

She's the one in front. She has that mark but I don't think she was pregnant then unless it was something to do with the ammonia being too high-why would it just disappear?
I now have 5 male guppies and a pair of platy. The platy will be going to their new home after new year. I don't think I should add anything else to the tank until I can look after these ones properly.
They are all happily swimming about now I was especially worried about the platy they were so lifeless and hadn't ate for 3 days. Now that the waters spot on, they are swimming around with the guppies and have ate. I was over feeding them which probably didn't help matters. I am now feeding them once a day - a tiny bit and turning the filter off as I noticed as soon as the water went round and the food hit the flow-it just fell onto the plants and it's quite hard to remove I don't want to disturb the plants. I am now looking for some moss to fill the gaps between the plants. I will also post a vid of my beautiful boys :) they do sometimes square up to each other but nothing major.
Will keep you updated. Thanks

:good:

Pretty much spot on there. You don't want to be adding anything until the conditions are stabalised for a while and those platy are re-homed, especially as those microrasbora (if you were interested in them) aren't the hardiest of things when it comes to water chemistry if I remember rightly from what I've read before. Once everything has settled for a while you should be able to add some new stock :)

Do you know if your guppies are males or females or both? You want to make sure your male/female ration is at least 2:1 If you only have one female, you run the risk of the male bullying her to mate, which can cause stress and yes, they can be even bullied to death. Rule of thumb with livebearers, in a coed environment, the more ladies to each male, the better. I personally have 7 females to 2 males.

Oh they are the cutest things but they look so tiny and frail! I saw the tiniest fish when I went to pets at home last time they were caled killifish I think. The platy are only being rehomed due to me not realising I had a male and female and how easily they breed. My friend likes the idea of them breeding easily and wants them in his tank once it's set up. He's downsizing to one of these fluval corner numbers and I think he is using the stuff from his old tank which was huge. It's been about a month or so it's been up and running so shouldn't be too much longer.
I will stick to guppies I think, I love them they are so pretty.

Not a bad choice, they are lovely fish. I think you could easily add a couple more, just make sure they're all males - if not then I maybe wouldn't add any more due to the amount of fry they can produce.

Sorry I didn't see your reply, they are all males :good:

I got a huge moss ball today, I split it in 2 and put them at the front of the tank. They look awesome :D the tall "spiky" plant needs trimming again, so I will just bunch it with the previous clippings and fill in the gaps on the back wall. The red cabomba seems to be shrinking and the flowers have all closed I don't know why. When it was coldwater the flowers opened and the plants were all growing so fast.
Here are some more pics :D
With the moss balls what do you guys think?

I like that jug :p I think it blends in nicely! The fish like going in it too!

Well the platy are rehomed my friend also took one of my big male sunset guppies I think that's what type he was and the baby. He gave me 3 of his female guppies. I now have 3 males and 3 females.
It's actually really funny watching them the females are chasing the males around. I'm convinced these males are gay  they back away into that jug lol. One female-who's quite transparent and has a very light blue tail with spots on it-has taken a shine to my electric blue/green male that's in the top photos, but he's having none of it haha! She's so cute following him around. I will put some pics up of the females shortly :)
