My five gallon tank. Nothing in it yet but it'll soon be home to a few RCS and 2 Honey Gouramis. I still have to add Java moss to the slate at the bottom right of the tank and I'm going to rearrange the rocks a bit but thats basically what it's gonna look like. Any suggestions or anything are welcome.

Nice looking tank, could do with a back ground though :good:

Is that black gravel or sand???

Thanks! :D It's my first fish tank. that's black gravel, not sand. I'm thinking o getting a background when I go buy my first fish in about 2 weeks.

I wouldn't say that tank is big enough for honey gouramis.

You're looking at more like 10gal for a pair. Not because of the bioload, but because 5gal just doesn't provide them with enough swimming room.

5 gallons is enough for a pair of Honey Gourami in my opinion.

when I go buy my first fish in about 2 weeks

Without mature filter media from an already established tank, cycling a tank in 2 weeks is impossible...Sorry if I've misunderstood and if you've had this tank running a good few weeks already.

Well you see this is what happened.
1. I got a fish tank, filter, everything else, and was going to do a fishless cycle.
2. I saw on a thread that you don't have to fishless cycle if the fish tank has a lot of plants.
3. So I asked about it on the thread and they said it wasn't a good idea for beginners(and I'm a beginner) but it was too late because I already ordered my first fish!
4. So now I'm waiting for the fish(invertabrates really) to come and when they do I'll have to do a fish-in cycle.
5. So before I the invertabrates come(they're coming in 2 weeks), I'm adding some fish flakes to get the bacteria started at least a little.

Also, can I have a list or something of what fish I can have in a 5 gallon that won't eat the shrimp? Its getting kinda confusing, I don't know who to listen to here. xD Lol

Fair enough. You're in for a lot of water changes though to ensure the ammonia and nitrite don't reach levels (anything above "0" on a test kit) that harm fish/inverts.

As for fish here are a few.

Ember Tetras
Microrasbora sp.
Endlers
Otos
Guppies
Threadfin Rainbows

I wouldn't any rainbow in 5g, especially rainbows they are very active.

edit I said not otos but was thinking of the 2.5g tank in a different post.

Wait so you're cycling your tank with shrimp?

I think that's a very very very bad idea.
Shrimp are incredibly sensitive to ammonia and nitrites...I'd be surprised if they last more than a few days.
And 5gal isn't big enough for honey gouramis.

In 5gal you're looking at a betta or Boraras brigittae or other dwarf fish really.
But if it were me then I'd fishless cycle it, and have a few species of shrimp and a snail. Or a single male betta.

I think if I were to choose from that list I'd choose guppies. How many guppies could I put in there with the shrimp?

Well, I don't see anything else I could do about it. :/ I already ordered the shrimp.
