My Fish's Tail Is Shredding!

So, today I noticed that Mr. Bubbles' tail is like shredding apart. And I witnessed a little piece of it fall off too. So, what is it and what can I do? He seems fine, is hungry as ever, his color is great. I feel helpless.

He has fin rot. It is a very bad bacterial infection. He has the equivalent of a grossly infected cut. Keep his water spotless; change it as often as you can. I would probably add salt. Go to the lps or lfs and get whatever antibiotic they can recommend for fin rot. If you have a reputable lfs/lps it is probably better than a chain store. I'm sorry.

Thanks. That's what I feared. Do I add the medication directly to the water while he is still in the tank? Or do I need to take him out for it?

Directly to the tank. If you are concerned dilute it before you add it. Just be sure to adjust the dose to the water volume, so he doesn't get an overdose. I had hoped someone better with the meds would respond. You can also check on the emergency board.

You basically read the instructions, it will tell you exactly how much to add to the water in the tank and how often to add it.
