My Fishless Cycling Log

Ash, have you been to the 'Aquarium' ? They sell Unipac black sand. The Aquarium is up near Carlton Boulevard, near the Pets at Home in the north of lincoln. The bloke who runs it is called Kev and is great. I get all of my stuff from there, he'll order you in anything. They have really good quality fish in there as well. He'll often stock the stuff you won't find in Pets at Home.

He's got some black sand at the moment. :good:

Ouch, hang in there!

So my mature media help at least! BTW I would change the substrate over very soon as it's a pain if you do when you actually have the fish.

Yep, it did! Thanks again. Yeah I'm planning on changing before I get the fish, will try get some this weekend. :good:

How much will changing the gravel affect my cycle? How many days will it set me back? Also my ammonia is processing in 12 hours, my nitrites in 24, how long will it be until the nitrites process in 12? Thanks

There should be no difference from changing the gravel.

A few more days till nitrite is done in 12 hours.

Oh that's good then, I'm changing to sand tomorrow. I'd like to get some corydoras but I've had no luck tracking down the pygmy ones, I asked at one of my local stores and they said they hadn't seem them on the list for a while.

did you have a look in MA at Whisby, they had some in last week, they had Panda cory's as well, which stay a nice size.

Also dwarf Corys (Corydoras hastatus) would also work :good:

I'll also keep an eye out for these!

Also, I've just picked up a 4ft tank for £15! My first tank hasn't even finished cycling, and now I've got another  I dunno what I'll do with it though.

Unless you use RO water, this in near on impossible in Lincolns water, its as hard as a diamond. I tried a couple of GBR's in Lincoln water and they were not going to last long, they went back to the LFS in a day. The LFS's around here don't really sell Apistos, you can get them from the soft water section in MA, but they won't sell them if you're using tap water. It runs straight off of limestone. It's great for planted tanks though Ash. :good:
