Hello, I am new to fish and not too sure what I all have, also I was told a few might be pregnant but I am not sure maybe you can tell in these pictures. Thank you.

Bottom Feeder

I have 13 fish in total in a 29 gallon tank. How many more would be okay in the tank? thanks.

You have Guppys, Platies, a Black Skirt Tetra, a Gold Chinese Algae Eater and some Swordtails
I would advise you to remove the 'bottom feeder' as these become pretty aggressive as they grow up and many fish shops won't allow you to return them when they are bigger

That's funny now that you mention it those bottom feeders chase every fish in sight and fight with each other non stop, what bottom feeder would you recommend?

Hiya - did you buy all these fish yourself? you've had them for how long?

Tank, looks ok, clear, very yellow though? Whhat are your water stats? (eg nitrate nitrite & ammonia) Could prob do with some more plants. what temp do you keep it at?

2nd pic - 2 guppies, a male swordtail, female pregnant platy
3rd pic - male and female swordtail( i think), female platy, 2 neon tetras, chinese algae eater
4th pic - pregnant orange platy, above that to the left i dont know, some sort of chichlid i think, the others cant see well
5th pic - 2 male swordtails, 2 guppies at top, platies? not sure if thats a molly at the top
6th pic - poss a tuxedo platy in foreground?
7th pic - cant see well, you'll have to take more pics of that and explain what its like in the emergencies section
8th pic - i assume is the hospital tank?
9th pic - chinese algae eater, you'll have to rehome him eventually as he'll get too big for the tank

I only said they were aggressive. In that I mean that they will suck onto other fish and pull out their scales and they will get rid on fish's protective mucus. Also they become territorial and they will grow huge, too big for your tank. A better bottom feeder would a Bristlenose Pleco

great bottom feeders are corydoras - but they need sand as a substrate as gravel/stones damage their barbels

Thanks Fluffy. Yep that is the hospital tank I have the one fish in right now. Hmm that bugs me about the bottom feeder because I wanted the Algae Eater that looks like a spotted bullhead, but the lady told me it would get way to big and said those two would be better ><, and now they closed down haha oh well. I will take some better pics soon, I was kind of in a rush for those.

Can I build something that the babies can run and hide in when they give birth? I would prefer they were not all eaten when it happens

EDIT: My wall is yellowish so it kind of shows that in the tank when I take pics. I bought a few neons and 2 of those black skirts a while ago but, one of the black skirts was crazy and they decided to fight to the death. So I only have one of those now. I tried to stop them any way I could but they just kept at it. Then I just kept those fish for a year in the hospital tank. My friend just gave me his fish about 2 weeks ago they were the swordtails and platys, thought they were neat and went to the fish store for an algae eater and they said they were closing down soon and gave me a bunch of free fish with the bottom feeders. so I had really no idea what they were until you guys told me.

One thing you will be told over and over - NEVER trust a fish shop I dont even know what a spotted bullead is, a pleco??

Are you medicating the one in hospital?


For the platy babies a nice ball of java moss and maybe some other live plants like cabomba and hornwort

Yep Pleco is the one As for the medication yes I am using Fungus Eliminator at the moment and it does seem to be helping. Okay cool I will get some java moss tomorrow. think I should try give those 2 bottom feeders i have now to the fish store and get a pleco?

depends if you are going to trust their judgment on size and character personally i would ask on here for a suggestion of a specific type of pleco suited to your tank. its up to you whether you give the CAEs away or not. i have one, and wont be rehoming it until i need to. that said, if you have two and they are fighting its a different situation entirely....

Well thank you for all the help I think I will keep the two bottom feeders for now until they become a larger problem. I talked to the local fish store and I will get all the stats on the tank water tomorrow also I am going to buy some live plants for the tank. Think I need anything else ? I would love a few more fish but I think I might wait and see if that one gives birth soon.
