Hello,

I've had fish for about 2 years now, and ive had this tank for 1 of those. I have 1 dot tetra fish and one zebra tetra, i have one faintailed moor, and one black butterfly fantailed moor, i also as of yesterday had two butterfly pleco (itchy and scratchy) however i think itchy died during the night, or was eaten as i can no longer find her in the tank  ..

Its a cold water tank, and i've got a filter and air filter.

:hi:
What size tank have you got?

if it did die then the others probably ate it. what are you water stats? ammonia? nitrite? nitrate?

Its a 55 ltr Hex tank (14.5 gallons i believe google makes it) My Ammonia is Null, Nitrates are also Null. Its a fresh water tank and from what i read im supposed to keep these as low as possible. i've also been keeping the PH at around 7.4-8.0.

also i have a Fluval 2+ filter and on the end of the air filter is an Airstone so the bubbles are tiny when they come out of my little scuba helmet (looks pretty cool) :p

Ill try and see what the quality of pictures is from my phone.

Unfortunatly theres not enough light at the moment, because obviously i cant use the flash, and i dont have lights in my tank.

14 gal is too small for the goldies, they will need at least a 30 gal for the 2 of them. not sure on this but aren't the tetras tropical?

Looks like you're mixing coldwater fish and tropicals; never a good idea - you need to give each particular fish the best conditions possible, you can't do that by mixing them. The tank needs to be much bigger than you have at the moment. Are your water stats correct?. Ammonia and Nitrites should be 0; you should always have Nitrates.

Well like i said ive had this setup for more than a year and all of the fish seem to be more than happy.

Amonia is zero, Ph is 7.4 and not really sure which is zero nitrates or nitrites, but one of them is. Ill be redoing my test on sunday so ill know then.

But both have little to no stress as there colour is as bright as when i bought them, if not better. So i cant be going to wrong.

Please can I ask at what temperature you keep your water? I'm interested because goldfish need cold water and tetras need warm water. Despite the temperature and the tank size, you say the fish are all "more than happy" - how do you measure this?

Sorry if I sound a bit unhelpful... but you came to this forum for advice and we are trying to give you just that. It is, of course up to you whether you take our advice on board. However, our first thoughts are with your fish.

Quite apart from whether you should be keeping them together, Goldfish are very, very messy. They also need a lot of oxygen in the water, and the warmer the water, the less oxygen it will contain. Please think about your fish first, not whether they look ok to you.

If you read what i posted rather than simply assume i know nothing about it, i clearly stated that ive had this setup for well over a year and have had fish for 2 years. Id also done alot of research prior to buying any fish or aquarium. So rather than imply that i dont care about my fish try reading my post first.

The filter has an extra air intake, as well as a seperate air filter which is constantly running 24/7 along side the filter. The water is crystal clear, Ammonia is trace, PH is a steady 7.4/.5. Gold fish are messy, but moors arnt they might be "gold fish" in family name, but they are alot different to goldfish.

I have no equipment to measure the water temperature, so i can simply assume its at room temperature (what ever that be). Tetras are fine and healthy and have grown quite alot. All the fish have bright and vibrant coloured scales, so i can only assume they are happy and stress free.

I also care for my fish's wealthare its why i do not have lights in the tank, as they bring no benefit to the fish them selfs, and feed them a varied diet of little tube worms once a week / flake food every morning, and some times those little insect things that come in a bag (no idea what they are, but they seem to eat every last one)

your water stats or whatever may be fine but coldwater fish and tropical fish should not be mixed, and the tank is too small for one goldfish let alone two, they will continue to grow until they can't grow anymore then they will be stunted, even though they stop growing on the outside there organs still grow which causes illness and death, if you really care for them then either return the fantails or buy them a 30 gal and leave the other fish where they are, then IF you do that you should up the tetra numbers to 5 of each which would make them very happy but ONLY if you remove the fantails

 Why cant tropical and cold water be mixed? They dont bite each other, and they are all swimming about rather than some just lazying about.
