The filter you have looks like an eheim, which is a very good brand, all their filters are quality and very reliable. It is really up to you how you want the tank to look, not what everybody else thinks of it, although i would say put that cave thing in the middle as it does look a bit empty imo. Whats the tank size? and what fish are in it if any?

there isnt any fish in it at the min as it is cycling. its been set up since thursday i tested it today just to see what it was like as i cant wait to get some fish in it but not ready. i cubed it up as 36" length 12" wide and 17" in height so roughly about 27 uk gallon. the cave that isnt in the tank? any fish that are quite easy to look after as dont want to get anything compicated and waste them as im not that clued up on fish yet.

Nice sized tank :good: what types of fish have you seen that you really like? You could maybe pop into a pet shop/ aquatic centre, note down what you liked and come back here and ask/ research what environments they need.

As for the tank... you've made a fab start, and I love the slate - in fact, I think it would look even better with some vallis or amazon sword plants around it :)

How about some bogwood? I think it looks great in tanks, and you could get some really nice pieces in yours!

i thought about bogwood but i got told it makes the water acidic, i dont know true that is.
i wouldnt mind an albino toad and also like the male japanese fighter i would like to keep a few of them but got told if i have more than 1 the strongest would kill the others.

i also like the look of guppies and tetras. would it be possible to keep tetras and guppies in the same tank?

I've got quite a few large pieces of bogwood in my tanks, and my pH hasn't really been affected by it. Alternatively you could maybe add some more rocks/slate and some plants if the bogwood worries you :)

Male Siamese fighter fish - or betta splendens - MUST be kept alone... they will ALWAYS fight. You could have a group of females, but they aren't as impressive to look at and harder to come by IMO. You can find more info on them in the Betta forum on here. You could always get a smaller tank (20-30litres maybe) if you're keen on a betta - one boy would live quite happily in a smaller, heated and fitlered tank.

I know nothing about albino toads, so can't help you there i'm afraid, and I don't keep guppies or tetras, but i'm sure if you posted in the relevant places, people would help you out.

Lovely tank though, thanks for sharing :D and keep updating the pics!!

more plants!!!
other than that lookin' good
and yes, that is a great filter!
