i have a Rio 125 on order.

and i was wondering which species of malawi cichlid are suitable for this size tank, i was wondering if you could give me a list of suitable malawis so i can research them.

does the rule of 1" per gallon still apply with these fish?

Hi, you know I wanted malawis in my Rio 125 but it really isn't big enough, and if you can find the answer then I will be watching!

My Rio has been cycled for 12 days straight now and still empty  as I am having stocking decision problems as I really want fish that will use the rock cover rather than the open water like malawis. I thought of getting fry then worrying about rehoming later but that's not really a responsible fishkeeping attitude.

Anyways, watching your thread with interest :shifty:

lol, im hoping for replys, i thought a 125 would be big enough for some of the smaller species? i maybe wrong

mine is coming on thursday but im doing a tank clone, im literally like a kid at christmas

Hey, I'm 51 and have also been like a kid this Christmas as the tank is cycled and 12 days constant but have been banned from fish shops by Mrs D and in anycase not sure what to put in it as I liked the idea of malawis

same with my mother, i cant go to a 'proper' LFS with her, only a garden centre...but it HAS to have a craft section  so i sometime catch the bus, and because i know the owner of my 'decent' LFS i can buy fish although under 16 (im 14), hes a family friend, so thats kind of helpful.

A bit small. I wouldn't put mbuna or peacocks in there. You could look at some combination of Lake Tanganyika cichlids. They're Africans also. I love Julidochromis. Could check out shell dwellers.
