This is my first Betta which I purchased almost 6 weeks ago. Has anyone had a fish get fin rot from a plant? I had a Hornwort plant in my aquarium and in less than two weeks, poor Sharky had fin rot and a small slug was crawling on the glass. Could the plant have been contaminated causing the infection? I removed the fish and rinsed everything thoroughly in hot water. He's doing well now after giving him Maracyn-two and a adding a little salt to his water. Now I'm adding Melafix for fin growth. He's a bit of a fussy eater, refusing to eat flakes or pellets. I feed him frozen brine shrimp, beef heart, and blood worms. Twice a week I give him a pea, which he loves. Sharky lives in a 4gal biOrb with a heater...constant temp of 80. He swims like crazy and doesn't seem to mind the bubbles caused by the pump. I will buy a fake plant to slow down the current a bit.

Here's a photo of Sharky.

good name for him and his colours are nice try rinseing the plant

Slug crawling up the glass? never heard of that before.
Are you sure he's not chewing his fins? Sometimes bettas do that, especially if they have been confined (ie for shipping or in tiny pet store vases). Usually it's cured by putting the betta in a tank that he's not bored in but one of my VT's does it no matter what I keep him in, I have tried everything. If I keep him with a little salt it doesn't seem to be too bad because he doesn't bite off what he can't reach. He doesn't get finrot but his fins always look raggy.
