I got my first betta on Saturday, he's a red VT, but when the light catches him just right you can see bright blue on his sides.

He's living in a planted 40l cube, with a modified fluval 2plus (modified to produce no current).

Here he is munching on some Tetra Prima:

The lights have gone out today so here's one I took yesterday (with water marks on the glass :()

Oooh now THAT is nice. How have you modifed the Fluval? I can't seem to manage it with either of mine.

Hi, like yourself I am a new Betta keeper. Love your fish.....his home looks great and will improve even more as the plants grow.

Like the camera too!

I would be inclined to put in a 3D rocky background (can be done by scooping the sand away from the rear of the tank and sliding down a prefectly sized piece of background using clips at the top and pushing the sand back around the bottom)....just my view :fun:

very interested in your sand.......what is it

the filter mod looks like a sponge tied on with a rubber band, cheap and works well, but I would just keep an eye on wear and tear so the betta does not eat a broken bit of rubber band and die.

lovely tank...could have some corys if you wanted and your betta was cool with them.

Thank you, I modified my filter by cutting the top and bottom off a 1l drinks bottle. I then split it open and wrapped it around the filter. I put a piece of polyfilter near to the outlet inside the bottle and put an elastic band around it to hold it all together. I will probably get some sealant at some time and make a proper job of attaching the drinks bottle.

I cant remember the name on the pack, I'll have a look when I go to pick up some more food on Friday. As far as I can tell it is crushed volcanic rock and it is very fine soft sand. It was strange, in the pack it looks completely black, but when you get it wet it turns a dark grey colour ????

Thanks, I am probably going to get 5-6 panda or pygmy cories, not decided yet. I was going to get some on Sunday, but my LFS was out of both :(

Nice start to a tank.... and a BETTA tank at that. Looking really good. Glad to see you keepin the guy in such a good environment.

He is certainly a stunner. :D

Update us when the plants grow out a bit more. I'd love to see progress on this.

I'm about to start a planted 125g Cichlid tank at this end of this week .... call me crazy :p

If any of you read the tropical section you will see that my betta is now sick.

I bought some panda corys yesterday to keep him company and they brought in whitespot :(

I'm treating with WS3 and increased the temperature to 30*C
