My First Attempt Of Fish Tank Please Look :) And Eggs

Java Fern is really easy to grow, lowlight is enough for it. For better growth, does the tank with a liquid fertilizer like Tetra Plantmin. But make sure the Fern's rhizome is above the substrate. :good:

Yup! For plants that are submerged under the substrate I strongly suggest you use fertilizer tablets.

Ummm that still looks confusing
LOLLL :S

Nice tank and well done breeding the convicts. you could do with some more hiding places though :look:

How can i make some hiding places..? i aint going to buy no oranaments... ive spend so much money on ornaments from my local pet stores, The paint always seems come off in the water and they look ugly. I want somethink fish can hide in but no plants, But may buy ornaments online if they are decent
Or if you eat lots of coconuts like I do (I don't), then you could make some coconut caves with the coconut shells :look: :D :p

Lol :p i dont eat coconuts tho oh well
OK, ummm, do you by any chance grow palm trees? :look:  :hey:

Lmaoooo well in the country im from (uk) i doubt u can ever grow them loool
Oh -_-
If I eat a coconut in the next few days, I'll post it to you :hey: :p

loool do u just put half the coconut in there? lol dont it effect the fish?
No, it will rot. Unless you want a rotten coconut cave
You have to scoop/eat the delicious white stuff :look:  to leave the brown shell bare, then boil it to remove anything harmful

What about the far on the outside of coconut? do i give it a haircut LOL? :D
wow that is alot of effort but i might do it :D
:hey: After boiling I dont think its necessary to turn it into a skinhead lol
But to be on the safe side, I would give it a haircut or a Mohikan! :hyper: :hey:

Yeah ill give it a mohikan :D might even make him bald!

That would be to confusing for me lol :)
Its not confusing at all, its just like adding dechlorinator to a bucket of water, only its adding plant additives to the tank + its not necessary by any means. Also even crappy lights will do, bright lights might burn the leaves apparently :D

Does light have to be on 24/7? How often do i have to put these things into my water?

Ok, stop being stupid! :p Also think, your fish would absolutely love it! It would bring out their personalities.

No lights only need to be on a maximum of 8 hours or so. If they are on to long it makes the plant photosynthesise to much which causes it damage!

Lol but..... 1, how long do they need light? if they need it alot i cant do becuase it scared my fish to bad they do not come out of there pots until the light is off. and i have fry in their so i dont want to kill any fry with chemicals :) But maybe ill give it a try if i can understand these rules

Oh thats ok now just 1 thing, I really need a easy way to put them into my tank, Can i just put them in tied onto my cocnuts?

Lights = 8 hours a day.

These things you put in the tank are made especially for fish tanks! There are no harmful chemicals or anything in them. Everything is perfectly fine. It would also give the fry somewhere to hide if the dad does get anxious and tried to eat them!

No, some plants need to be in the substrate. By the looks of things your substrate is deep enough for most plants.

No around 6-9 hours is fine.
The liquid fert can be added daily, weekly or every 2 weeks. With a plants as easy to care for such as Java Fern, I would dose the tank every 2 weeks

6-9? I thought i dont need light? does my roof lighting for the room count lol? i dont want to put my fish lights on as it scare the fish to much,

Yes you need light -.-!!!!! Grrr.

You need the light on about 8 hours a day. The plants can be trimmed by simply putting your hand in the tank and snipping the leaf from the stem. It's sooooo simple!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLL It may be simple but with me talking to 3 or 4 diffrent people about the same thing does make it hard.

And you mean to say you don't put your lights on?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?

Most fish require it for health reasons. The lighting that a fish is under can affect many of the bodily systems including the reproductive organs. Also, the regularity and strength of light can affect a fish's stress levels.

Fish need around 12 hours of lighting per day to ensure that the tank conditions are as similar to natural conditions as possible. The lighting needs to be consistent as inconsistent lighting can cause stress in fish and lead to health problems. Timers can be bought to ensure that this is easily maintained.

Remember that fish cannot close their eyes and so the twelve hours a day of lighting should be during day time when they are awake. At night the lighting should go off in order for them to sleep.

Yes, just tie them on, could be with thread or fishing line. Personally, I'd use elastic bands as if any fish get trapped between the band and the coconut/roots, they can easily be released back. Its also less of a hassle to use elastic bands to tie the plant to the coconut, compared to fishing line :good:

Nope.. i dont use it at all only a few times for a min or so when checking fish's eggs.. When that article says "light" i have my room lights on nearly all day thats still light..

You need to make sure that lighting is as similar to natural light as possible; fluorescent lighting needs to be used. Flames and household light bulbs are no good; you need fluorescent lights which are to be replaced every eight months. The light needs to be the same intensity as the sun in the tropics. A normal house hold bulb isn't going to get that!

How would i tie it tho?

If that is the case, why don't you add some floating plants to dim the light a little bit?
