Hi ,have only had this female dwarf gourami a couple of days ,she`s in a tank with another male and female, have noticed male keeps pushing females, but nothing drastic ,but got up this morning and noticed this one female `s got an open cut by her side fin ,what shall i do ,this is the third female i`ve had trouble with, within two weeks, please help?

After a fish is hurt or dies, you should first figure out what happened, before you buy more.

What are the dimensions of the tank and decor? Photo would probably help with the decor description. What are the other tank mates?

For the moment, increase water changes. Be ready to treat with an anti-fungal medication, if the wound shows any signs of fungus.

(The fin is called a "pectoral".)

Hi ,Kitty Kat ,the tank size is 31 inhces long ,17 high 13 wide will post a photo later [not very good at it]The decor, there are artificial plants,2 real ones,no sharp ornaments though. The other tank mates are 6 corries ,1 male dwarf gourami ,1 female ,2 pitbull plecos ,2 glowlight tetra and shrimp ,substrate is pea gravel.I`m checking water daily .,and if need be doing a 60 percent water change. Will an anti fungal med -ication harm my corries?

The things you are wanting to change out of the water right now are not anything you can register on a test kit.

Some medications will harm Corys, read the instructions carefully.

The male has most likely had a go at her, the tank is not that big.. if you do not have any plants floating at the surface, you might want to add some, so that there are breaks in the line of vision from one end to the other and the female can hide in those. Think water lettuce, water sprite, floating Elodea maybe..

Hi Kitty Kat,thanks for your reply ,if the male has had a go at her ,do you think it will heal up on it`s own ,or do i still need to use anti fungal meds .,as i`m worried about my corries?

That depends on how bad it is.. I can't make a guess.

If it's a dwarf gourami, it could be dwarf gourami disease, for which there is no cure.

Yes ,the female gourami is nearly dead ,that`s 3 females dead within 2 weeks ,i won`t be replacing it ,i`m left with 1 male and 1 female now

I ended up euthanizing my last gourami because I couldn't stand to see him suffer like the rest. It's all from overbreeding/inbreeding. If I could find someone I know who breeds them responsibly I'd get some more because I think they're wonderful, but I won't get any more from a LFS. Even the LFS that I trust has a tankful of dwarf gouramis, and when I was in there one of them was just lying on the bottom, soon to die. I'm still looking for a fish to take its place as far as color and size, but I'm still looking.

So sorry you're having to go through this.

Thanks for that ,it is horrible to see them try and swim, and constantly fall to the bottom,i `m having to watch the gourami ,as my shrimp are after it,and it keeps moving ,so i can`t take it out yet, don`t worry though i won`t let the shrimp touch it.

If you can, avoid buying any Dwarf Gourami's, buy Honey Gourami's wherever you can, they're not as aggressive from experience and can't contract the Dwarf Gourami virus.

You could euthanize the poor thing to save it any more suffering.

So, so sorry for your loss. I hate losing fish. I lost a peppered cory tonight.
