My Electric Yellw Is Going Skinny?

worms :)

see if there are any tiny red things hanging out her butt, if so they are camallanus worms and need to be treated with something like Levamisole Hydrochloride or Flubenol

If there is nothing hanging out her butt then she probably has tapeworms and you can treat them with Praziquantel. This is a dog and cat tapewormer and is now being used to treat gill flukes in fish. Use 100mg Praziquantel per 20litres of water. Do a partial water change a day later and re-treat the tank a week later. Then do another water change 24hours after the 2nd treatment.

When treating for intestinal worms you need to treat the entire tank because some worms release eggs and others release live young. The eggs need to hatch and then the larvae can be killed, hence the need for a couple fo treatments one week apart.

To work out the volume of water in the tank
measure Length x Width x Height in cm
divide by 1000
equals volume in litres

When measuring the height, measure from the top of the gravel to the top of the water level. If you have big rocks or driftwood in the tank, remove them before measuring the height.

Before you treat the tank do a 50% water change and complete gravel clean. This will reduce the gunk in the tank and allow the medication to work more effectively. It will also lower the pathogen count in the water and mean there are less nasties around to infect the fish.

geeze your up late tonight, what gives, or did you just wake up? :)

insomnia :) and I'm watching the blues brothers. It's a silly show but makes me laugh.

Would fluke and tape worms be the best to treat my fish with? as it has Praziquantel in the tablets. i can see white little worms on the bottom of the tank!

I use "Aqua Master Fluke & Tapeworm Tablets" to treat fish for tapeworms. If that is the brand you have of something similar, then it should be fine to treat the fish for tapeworm. However, it won't treat thread worms like camallanus unless it has other ingrediants in it specifically for them.

The little white worms in the gravel are common in most tanks and are a sign of dirty gravel and lots of meat foods being used. The worms don't affect the fish but are an indicator you need to tidy the tank up a bit. Try doing a 30-50% water change and complete gravel clean each day for a week. Reduce the feeding and make sure you remove any uneaten food after feeding.
