I thought my 2 larger discus were up to something. Sure enought I caught them with their tubes down. I also saw the female lay the egg they did not know what to do. I have seen breeding tubes before and I'm sure it's a male and female.

I think they eat the eggs. I feel I'm doing something right if they are spawning. Here are some photos.

Male leftfemale right.

Do females only let tubes Down when they are going to lay eggs? Males will let the tubes down a bit when courting a female I hopes she will be ready? Right? This seemed to be true with my acaras and my discus did the same thing.

Awesome, never seen discus breed, how can you sex them before they breed???

Defo male and female naughty bits !

Maybe you could get one of those discus spawning cones. They seem to really like them to spawn on.

You can't really sex young ones like mine untill you see the Breeding tubes. You can tell when they pair up. Mine would always be together they would go off into a corner together for alone time. They would shimmy at eachother so I knew it was just a matter of time.

Some say you can sex them once fully mature. even then it is very hard to sex them.

I don't know if I will get a cone this wood seems to be good for them. I did not want to breed but if it happens it happens. I don't think I will try and raise any.

good to see that your fish are spawning. a sure sign they are healthy and happy. be interested to be kept ip to date with how it gos. mine spawn regularly , but so far nothing has come of it .

I don't think I will get fry. Or if I do it will be a suprise. These guys are still young or they might be stunted. Also I'm pretty sure they had been given hormons so we will see.

if you do get fry, thats great. discus are really cool fish. would love to hear about it

Snowflake- i think Barb Odgers on simplydiscus.com sells really awesome cones, would like you to check em out ;)

I really think they were given hormones. Discus should get color not lose it.

oh yeah  that does look like hormones, i really dont see why ppl give discus hormones, i like them just the way they are when there small,

LFS probably hormone them so they sell faster though

the hormones will make a juvenile fish show adult colouring , therefore making it more appealing to the unsuspecting customer. unfortunately at great cost to the health of the fish .

yup that's why I don't think I will ever get fry. But this gives me hope that maybe I could buy a breeding pair and get a spawn someday.

if they have spawned once then it pretty likely they will spawn regularly , but as you rightly say very unlikely to result in fry.

Yeah I know I was looking at Hans pairs. I'm not ready for a real breeding pair yet. Maybe in a few years. As of now I will just grow out my babies and take it from there. Thanks.
