Ok, so last time I posted on here I thought my fish had babies but wasn't sure. By the time I was sure and had put the few I saw into a 3 way breeder they had gotten out of the tiny holes in the side and I never saw them again. After that, I bought a net type breeder just to be ready incase there was a next time. Well last night I found 3 baby danios clinging to the side of the tank. I put the net together and put the 3 in it. When I woke up this morning there were about 10 more fry clinging to the outside of the net breeder. I got them and put them into the net as well. So far none of gotten out so this may have worked. I also bought that first bite fish food so I can feed them. So now I have about 15 in the net and they are still very little.

Any info on taking care of the fry would be appreciated. Right now they are at the stage of just clinging to the side, not really swimming yet all that much. I put some food into the net just incase they were hungry but not sure if they can even eat yet or does that happen when they become free swimming? Any info on care for them will be helpful!

Also, I have a 19 gallon tank so what's the maximum number of fish I should have in there. I know if they keep having babies I'm gonna have to give some to the pet store or something but I do wanna keep a lot of them.

you need lots of floating plants, for the fry to hide in. once the fry are free swimming start to feed liquifry, andthen when there a bit bigger, "micro" pellets or crushed flake(micro pellets are the better option as they help stimulate growth and good health

If you have livebearer fry, the kind people usually discover, they can be fed on flake food that you pinch between your fingers. It would give you better fry growth to use specialized fry foods and growth foods but they will survive on the same flake their parents eat.

Ya, I'm going to get some floating plants tomorrow. So since the fry are in a breeder net inside of the tank, I'll just set the plants right above the net and that should be good enough right? And are the plants for protection from the hood light or from the other fish, or both? I also bought that first bite food that comes in the little package made for fry. That should be ok to start out with right?

Danio fry aren't that hardy and you will probably find only 2 or 3 will survive. I have been scooping out danio fry for 8 months and have only had 2 grow large enough to go in the big tank. I don't think they are classed as livebearers as the lay eggs in the gravel which then hatch. Good luck with them hopefully you will be lucky and they will all survive.

The babies you have their are to big to be danio fry, their from a livebearer, i see you got swordtails their a livebearer but i only saw males.
I see on your list of fish you have platies and guppies, these will be the parents of the babies you have.

Hey, I actually only have 6 danio's, 6 tetra's, and 2 male swordtales. I used to have guppys and platys though in the past in a different tank. When I edit my profile it doesn't list the platys or guppys, where did you see that?

After looking at pictures though, I'm positive they are danio fry.

Sorry was looking at scoloujo sig. LOL

They look quite large how long are they?
Danio fry are tiny and are easily eaten by all fish and danios and tetra's are some of the best fry eaters around. Your fry look like their 3-4 mm long this would make them about a 7-10 days old if they are danio.

Also can u get a close up of the swords. but both do look like males, how ever lyrtails females show swords but neither look like that just want to make sure

LOL ok just found the high quality version on youtube...... makes things much clearer :)

Yes they are danio fry, you done well to find them.

You may want to get liquifry #1 for the first week, and then feed some newly hatched brine shrimp or try some daphina (as in the bag their will be baby daphina too)

Like it or not Matt, you're going to have to become our Zebra Danio expert! Talk about a beginner getting plunged into it quickly!!

~~waterdrop~~
ps. as you can imagine, I'm not happy about the giants now

I didn't notice that high quality version link at first either lol. Thanks, I think I actually found close to all of them!

My LFS didn't have liquidfry so I bought Hikari First bites made for feeding fry, would that work instead of the liquid fry? Here's the link to it http://www.hikari.info/tropical/t_13.html

I've been feeding them that but most hasn't been eaten yet. Also on the instructions it says this:

For Egg-Layers (oviparous)
They utilize their yolk sack for nutrition right after birth. Start feeding Hikari First Bites right before their yolk sack is fully consumed. I started feeding them right when they become free swimming so I guess that what it meant lol. Also this brine shrimp I'll have to feed them, is it alive or in a flake form? Sorry definitely new to raising fry!

I probably will be a Zebra Danio expert after all of this is done lol :)

It was a good game though, I thought the Panthers were going to win for sure though. The Steelers didn't play to well either though. Too many turnovers lost the game for them! All that matters though is wins in the post season!

Hikari first bites i would not use on danios.

I feed newly hatched brine shrimp from day 2-3 after hatching, when you tummy was flat on the fry (used up the yolk sac). They come as a powder that u hatch in a salt water mix that needs aeration for about 24 hours for it hatches.
I then syphon out the swimming shrimp through a fine mesh and wash in tap water and feed direct to the fry.
The moving shrimp encourages their instant to feed which a pellet food will not.
