My Cichlid Tank- An Update With Pics :)

Just thought i'd share with you the new pics of my tank.

Originally I went for a mixed setup of Tanganikyans and Malawis but it didn't work very well due to the difference in the requirements of the different species.

So now i've got a Lake Tanganikyan setup, with species including: Compressicep, Brevis, Brichardi, Leleupi and Juli

Pics are below, hope you like!

I added a rock formation on the far left to add further caves etc, the slate/pebble combo in the back is mostly siliconed together too

Luckily I got them rehomed within a week of buying them and didn't lose much money from it either so everyone is a winner!

Tangs have much more character anyways

Wow...That is a £"%$"%$" Load of rock lol, Looking good mate, shame it isnt a bigger tank the malawi would love all that rock.

I'm thinking of being naughty and mixing my malawi/victoria w/tang. The fish I currently have are carnivores too, so that won't be much of a problem. I could keep the buffer up to 8.4 ph that would suit all species. I'll have to read up on it more

how about getting some closeups of fish if you can? For some reason I'm really drawn to Julis. Pairing them is the challenge, I guess

Here are a few pics as promised!

I think one of the Leleupi's may be dying or even dead as it's been getting bullied by the other Male (in the pics) for a few days and hasn't surfaced at all today. Trouble with these is sexing them, as I wanted a Male and a Female. Usually the way to tell is black markings on the skin but in the store they weren't too clear so took a risk.

1st up is Leleupi (dominant Male)

This is 1 of 5 Brevis-

This are my Compressiceps, i'm not 100% sure but I THINK I have a male and a female, due to the size difference/personality-

Here is 1 of 2 juvenile Brichardi, a couple of months old-

And finally Juli (not sure of exact species name) I have 2 of these, 1 is only a juvenile and an absolute nightmare to photograph lol-

uh oh I was just reading up on the comps: From cichlid forum
"Adult males can attain maximum lengths of six inches, while females max out at around four inches. Once mature, males are also higher-bodied and possess more elongated fins. Tanks no smaller than 100 gallons are recommended for adults."

Yer i've seen this about 6 inch. I checked and apparantly there are a few diff species. I checked with my LFS and the cichlid guy said mine will max out at 3-4" but if they do get that big i'll have to rehome them.

Gold Head Compressicep Cichlid
The Gold Head Compressicep Cichlid originates from the rocky coastal waters of Lake Tanganyika, Africa. This species is much smaller then their distant cousins, Dimidiochromis compressiceps, which originate in Lake Malawi, Africa; only attaining a maximum size of 4-1/2 inches. They are a very attractive cichlid with a yellow and black mask covering the head, and several vertical brown lines covering the body.

Ok Rossyboy!! I don't know much about tangs yet, more so about mbuna. But I intend on reading as I love learning about new fishy things!!!
