Hi All,

This is my brackish setup for my RCC's.
The bigger RCC is Smiley is the male, the smaller one is Cherry the female and the feeder goldfish is Crazy.

I like that, do the crabs move much or do they just sit still

yes, the crabs move around, they like to move around more so at night though. they would go into the water about 15% of the time. most of the time is spent poking around in the sand for food and sitting in their cave. they share the rock cave and like to sit on top of it sometimes to bask in the light. sometimes the bigger male gets territorial and takes whatever spot he likes. i've recently put some java moss in there and 5 ghost shrimps, and they like to go under the java moss and sometimes eat a little bit of it. this was an experimental setup for me. to learn the behavior of the crabs to build a better and bigger tank for them, and maybe add more crabs. the feeder gold fish was placed in their to provide them with live food if they can catch it, but they havent been able to or hungry enough to yet.

wow thats such a great set up. i know diddley squat about them but what size tank is that and what filter is that.. if you do need a filter..

thanks

I wonder why...oh yes, it's because RCC's aren't meant to eat live fish, they don't in nature, and giving them live food is NO BENEFIT to them whatsoever.

It only provides sadistic entertainment to you because you get to watch crabs tear a fish apart alive, it's not natural in the slightest and I worry about your mental health if you enjoy it.

Also, keeping goldfish in brackish water is just going to be very slowly killing it anyway by making it's osmoregulatory system and liver work overtime.

Americas seeming obsession with feeder goldfish really scares me...it not only breeds ignorance, leading people to believe that a)lots of species need to eat live food and b) that feeder goldfish are an acceptable diet for larger animals, which they are not (goldfish are very unhealthy to feed other things).

Just like to add, it's a real shame about the goldfish, because other than that the tank is great fr the crabs, which is rare as most people just slowly kill them keeping them in freshwater tanks with no land.

the tank is a 10g, and i use a whisper 10i for filtration, i will have to move to a canister type filter when i build the bigger tank with waterfall.
and my specivic gravity is currently 1.005 using some cheap 3.99 sea salt mix and a refractometer.

the feeder goldfish was given free by the LFS for the crabs, so i just put it in there, i don't have anywhere else to put it now. if i threw it into my GSP tank it would die an even more horrible death.

your not keeping these in freshwater are you? if not what is the specific gravity of the water? (SG)

Nice setup, but for god's sake get rid of the goldfish! Did you bother doing any research before you bought the crabs? Thye DO NOT eat live fish.

research.....

im guessing hes nnot got them in fw considering his title
