Betta as a centerpiece was/is a cute kitchy novelty type idea. the reality is that the less mature or drunken guests may/will do things to the fish while its on the table...i saw it happen myself...and at this particular wedding, there were 15 bettas to "deal with" when the night was over. i didnt even look at them and "choose" which ones i took home...i just grabbed the first two vases that were handy and got out of there! what a shame 
but it got me into the betta bug and im happy for that!
