Hi im new here but sense that you guys know what you are talking about. I have a 10 gallon freshwater tank that has one cichlid about...hmmm.... oh about this size [-----------------------------------------] and another one that looks just alike but is about this size [-------------------------]. Yes i know your all saying oh thats just terrible!, but When i got them they were both small and then one got real big and the other got to about medium size, and this was my first fish tank so i just saw these 2 cool looking fish and bought em, so there. Anyways other than the occassional chasing of the small one by the larger one they generally do pretty good together with my 6 inch plecostomus(exact same thing happened, it grew big, was small) but anyways my point is im about to get a new 42 gallon freshwater tank and was thinking about making it a cichlid tank since I already have 2 cichlids that co-exist well with each other. What do you guys think?, and also if you think me making it a cichlid tank is a good idea, how many more, what type, do you think i can get?

Best advice I could give you is to find out the correct names for your cichlids and where they come from. If they are Africans, you need to know from which lake. The most important thing then is to make sure that you only add compatible fish to your new tank, you'll need to reseach this. Read the Cichlid Addicts pinned article on this forum, I think that covers pretty much everything. Good luck

you said it was blueish pink, can it be a greyish color? If so you minght haveBlack convicts or T-Bar Convicts. Look the same. ones just nicer. If they are, theyre New Worls cichlids, and need very diffrent waters.

Well then i doubt that they are New World cichlids because I have had them in my 10 gallon regular freshwater tank for about a year now and they are fat and healthy looking. Also about there type of cichlid, that's the whole reason I came to this forum in the first place so I could get some person who knew about cichlids to tell me what type the are so I could see what others can co-exist with them. Ill try to submit a picture of them to you guys.

im sorry, but that makes no scence. they may very well be new world cichlids. Just because theyre healthy and fat in a 10 gallon doesnt rule that out. The T-Bar cichlid that i mentioned is new world and is small. A resturant that I go to has had a pair for 4 years and theyre still quite small.

Actually it does make sense, you made a point that my water inwhich I keep them is not acceptable, well obviously if they are healthy and pompus then their water is fine. :p

wqell no it doesnt. i said that New Worlds and affricans like diffrent kinds of water! I never said that your water is unexceptable! Did you get a picture of your fish yet?

there are some dwarf species of new worlds. new worlds are usually associated with the larger tank busters. a picture of the fish would be needed for id purposes. are there eggspots on the anal fin? eggspots are small oval spots gold in color.
