What a beauty, yeah anacondas don't have a good rep as pets due to their aggression although it will soon get use to u after loads of handling.

I don't understand why people keep animals that could potentially kill them, sorry.
Lovely colouring tho

im not so sure he could potentially kill me no more than an angry dog that bit me in the wrong place

they dont get as big as the green anaconda and what amuses me about peoples perceptions of snakes there are far less incidents of injuries from them compared to dogs and horses as the owners tend to be more responsible. a mates dad of mine the other day was kicked by his horse and has lost his eye and could have died.... any difference

Big difference as horses are domesticated, snakes are not.
Tbh I don't think snakes or any reptiles should be kept as pets but's that's just my opinion

Simon, your mad. I couldn't sleep with a snake in the house. In fact, I couldn't be in the house. Over the last few months I've got a wee bit better about being in pet shops with them in there but that's it. I won't go near them. Especially nowhere near something that's 5ft.
I understand what your saying with regards to dogs etc, but I think if it was averaged out the number of people who own dogs to the number who own snakes then the statistics would be high. Maybe that's just my ignorant perceptions though.

A male snake named Annie, bit of an identity crisis? How big will he get?

I have heard this species is hard to calm down and handle. I had a Reticulated Python once. No matter how much I handled him, I never knew if he was going to strike or not when I went to pick him up. I had to re-home him by the time he got to about 8 feet long. I kept more passive snakes like Columbian Red Tailed Boas and Burmese Pythons after that.

If the owner is responsible, knows about their needs and behaviour and knows how to care for them then i don't see the problem. I agree with Simon, a dog could maul you to death or a horse could kick you whilst not being fully aware and you would probably end up with some serious damage. Most animals/pets can be dangerous. You wouldn't dangle your hand in a tank full of Pirhanna's or one with a Red Tail Catfish in.

Also, why do people need to quote all the pictures again? All this does is take everyone else who is interested in the thread an eternity to scroll to what you wrote.

I think because of the way snakes are housed and their potential keepers are generally clued up on the safety aspect of them resulting in a very low rate of any incident. People show a respect to a snake as it cant be tamed like a dog for example

wheras your dog is treated like one of us really and unfortunately they can snap resulting in injury as they are not supervised unlike a snake or lizard etc

great animals to keep though

Very nice looker.
About the "dangerous" thing, can I ask whether you're looking at those stats within proportion of owners or just in terms of general pop?

Snakes are only dangerous if people mess around or handle them incorrectly or just arent observant. Most people who get bit tend to have not had the snake long enough to be able to read its reactions.

Yeah the annie bites going to hurt like a :X but its not dangerous.... its like being attacked with a couple of sewing needles... but not so long...

He is looking really gorgeous!! What kind of humidity are you keeping him at? I dont know much about annies, my best friend has one, its not a snake i would handle but im a chicken really! Even her ghosty bullsnake makes me jump because he is all hissy! And the mangroves make me nervous...

Do you hook him out or grab and hope for the best?

I could deal with keeping a ball python but man that is a monster!! He is so pretty though. When you get him calmed, I wanna come pet him :p
