Well here goes. Let's see if the pics work this time.

My 55 gallon is coming along great. Not adding anything new for a while. I want to get the mollies and the tetras their own tank too, possibly 30 gallon (26). The fry will keep the 10 gallon for now.

How long do you think it will take before my common pleco outgrows my 55 gallon? I honestly adore his personality, I just wish I had known when the LFS sold him to me for my 10 gallon. *sigh*

I have a common in a 55 and have had it for maybe a little over a year, say 14 months. roughly 10 or 11 inches at the moment and when I move next month, plan on upgrading this tank to a 120 or 125 so it should be able to live there for life. Prob 10 to 12 inches is the max I would do as it looks like it's territory is starting to overlap my jd's and it gets nipped by my jd every once in awhile. Plus, it just seems like its getting a little cramped in the tank for it. My JD would appreciate the room too I'm sure.

Do you have any pictures? I have just been told that it might be a gold spot sailfin instead - maybe mislabeled. He is pretty distinctly patterned. Hmmm, I could probably handle getting something bigger (tank wise) in about a years time. That is good to know since his personality is just wonderful. BTW - when they get that big, how in the world do you take him out of the tank to go into a new one - just pick him up watching the fins? I can't imagine he would like that.

Yours does look much lighter than mine. Mine is a darker gray if not black. Here is a picture though from the date on it, more than half a year ago:

Now looking at it, almost looks like a bit of septicimia with the fins being a little blood red, maybe it was just the picture cause I don't remember ever seeing this when would just look into the tank. Though I did have a small bought of septicimia when i had him in with a shoal of balas back then so maybe it was a small bowt with it.

I have a net that is big enough for it but I don't know if I would try to stress it that much. When I move I plan to use a 6 gallon bucket as transport container (this will also help xfer some of the water so the fish are not in completely new water).

thats not a common pleco, it's a gibbiceps pleco, you can tell by the eyes. it may as well be called common too though lol
it doesn't grow as big but i think it will still out grow the 55 gallon.
why not get something smaller like some clown plecos or something?
theres thousands of different species to choose from, negative thing about them is that they're "in fashion" at the moment and are abit expensive.

it looks like a nice happy pleco btw :good:

He is a pretty one!

I think a couple loaches would be REALY nice in there like yoyos or that
gr8 tank tho mate :good:

I heard that loches will get too big and aren't really suited in my tank with the other species I have. No biggie.

I am thinking of adding a set of skunk cories - they are so pretty, but holding off for now.

Thanks!

Wow - he is quite impressive. What size tank do you have him in? He doesn't look like mine, I don't think. When they get that big, how do you hold them?

I believe he was talking about mine. Can just tell from looking. His beast looks a little more like mine. Im not sure exactly what species it is. Like most plecos that look close to this, they are sold as "common plecos" by all lfs. Kind of sucks but can give the buyer a little fun in identifying exactly what it is.

Fun? Is that what it is called? Teehee.

If you have a sense of adventure and a thirst for knowledge, then yes, loads of fun :good:
