Hello all,

First of all the site is excellent and I hope you will all be able to help me because I am sure I am going need it!

So it looks like I have started with the most basic of errors and got carried away and brought a tank without any research or an idea of what I am doing.

I have brought a Biorb 30 tropical (which after finding this site seems to not be a good choice) but it’s too late now so I am going to stick with it.

I set it up last night following the standard instruction but guess I am after the usual beginner’s advice but also if there anything specific I should be doing for the Biorb?

Can people also recommend what Fish I should be looking to get for the tank and based on the fact I am a beginner.

Thanks

Chris

Hi there is nothing wrong specifically with biorbs they are just limiting in your choices of fish for example bottom dwellers become limiting choices.

You have joined the forum at the best time in the hobby right at the beginning! Make your way over to the beginners resource section and read up on the fishless cycling process it takes a while but ensures your fish will live healthily when you do add them.

As for fish stick to what are called nano fish so things like galaxy rasbora and badis fish are great for this tank as are sparkling gourami all open water fish that tend to stay in the middle levels though the badis will drop towards the bottom and the gourami more to the surface. An idea of a stocking level for the biorb 30 with these fish could be

3x Sparkling gourami
5x Galaxy rasbora

Welcome! I'm sure you'll like it here. I'm sure you can work with the biorb, as Willis said however your options are limited.

My advice: Don't listen to the people at the fish/pet store. ... Well, you can listen to them, but never trust what they say as gospel and always go home and double check what they say through reliable sources in books or on the internet. Their job is first and foremost to sell things. You can avoid a lot of disasters many others have had by just double checking what you hear.

Welcome to our forum Whitey cjw.
I would go ahead and get the tank fishless cycling before worrying about what fish to buy. Once that has started, start going to your local fish shop and looking at the smaller fish. If you come back here with a few fish that appeal to you, we can probably help you put together a nice tank stocking of the fish you like or similar fish.
