There are cases of breeders using loud rock music along with large water changes and flashing lights to simulate thunderstorms to get diffucult to spawn species in the mood.

ah yes, the "club effect"--will often persuade the most unlikely combinations to mate. subdued lighting, smoke machines and overpriced drinks will enhance the trick's effectiveness. however, one must be careful to watch for violence the morning after.

If you are playing music loud enough to make the tank vibrate you are probably irritating not only the fish but the entire neighbourhood! :S

Nope, I've got Demon Days by Gorillaz pretty much blasting at the moment, and the fish are ignoring it. The snails are grooving though, and the algae is swaying along in time to the beat.....

NOOOOO...IT'S ALIVE!!!!!!!!

No i'm quite serious, many fish are spurred on to breed by the onset of the rainy season so a song with a long drum solo played loud will simulate thunder quite well.

i play alot of heavy stuff like mm and cradle of filth and soil and stuff and my fish are completly fine they dont panic or anything

hope that helps

p.s ive beeen know to play it kinda loud :|

i have a prertty large sub in my room and speakers my fish tank is....i would say 15 feet away and if i turn the sub of there fine but if i have it on no matter how low it is it will affect them they get sterresd and hide

Sometimes when I play my 220 watt stereo and play the song "candyshop" by 50 cent or some other kind of rap music my bettas go crazy. They start swimming fast and everything and once I see them doing this I turn it down some.

My friend took my silver shark, it died and she used to play her music pretty loud with the stereo and speakers under the tank.

While most of my fish seem to take little or no notice I know my angels respond to me singing at the tank while there's music on. They seem to really enjoy it. Alot of my fish respond to my voice now so I guess that's it really. :dunno:
Hugs,
P.

I think this would depend on the fish. My CAE is not fond of loud noises at all, so I don't think he'd appreciate blaring music. However, my betta Valkyrie lives right next to my computer, which always has music and DVDs blasting out of it, and she doesn't seem to even notice when it comes on. I always keep the radio in the car off during transport, since it is allready stressful, but I think that if you use your discretion with the species and disposition, it should not harm or disturb the fish.

I think CFC is on the money. Going back nearly 20 years, the drummer in the metal band I was in bred oscars. We practiced a couple times a week in the basement under the tanks, while my buddy the drummer played daily. Incredibly loud, the fish bred like crazy.

Fish don't hear as such.  They are able pick up vibrations and translate that into signals that they are able interperate.

...Isn't that the same way we hear? :p
Fish do have internal ears separate from their lateral line and can hear, which I imagine is very helpful in differentiating sound waves from other sorts of vibrations.

And anything that is remotely like classical music will probably bore them to death.

hope that helps.

Them's fightin' words to an opera singer!!!! :grr: My fish happen to like Bach, Wagner, Rachmaninov, and Renaissance music. Classical music is most definitely not boring. :grr: For shame! Just kidding, to each his own. :) I happen to love Queen, but I'm really off topic now. But I talk to my plants, what do I know?
