Hi just wondering what people think about keeping 3 female nics in with my stocking? This is kind of my plan, the bleeding hearts are subject to being fast enough to avoid my A.Diadema which Im hoping for as they have a reputation for being fast.

Tank - Roma 240 (65g) - Filter - Fluval FX5 + 2000lph powerhead for aeration

1 A.Diadema *
2 C.Regini * (in grow out)
3 Female Nics * (i have one)
3 Annostomus Ternetzi *
10 Bleeding Heart Tetras
3 Pim Pictus * (i have two)
2 L135 *
1 L124 *

fish with a * are in the tank now

Do you think Im pushing it with 3 nics? All would be female and Ill try to match them to the size of my current one.

i'm not sure about bleeding heart tetras. also i have read people who had female nics and when they get to a certain size become pretty agro and with three in there i would be worried. also i found your monster fish keepers post when i was trying to figure out what a A.Diadema is. hah

Hah yeah I sometimes post on a few to get different opinions though no where else ever gives me replies :p

With the Bleeding Hearts - Ive seen quite a few people say they are fast, also they get quite big and round so hoping it will work.

Yeah Ive heard of females getting quite nasty as they get bigger. But Ive also read that they like to be in groups, admittedly breeding groups but I thought 3 females would work as it will spread the aggression around. Also I know my A.Diadema gets on with mt present female nic so hoping the pattern might follow?

Female Nics are much more aggressive than the Males, so it may not work.

yes well as i always say you never know with cichlids! i would try it, but obviously you need to be ready to move any fish in a instance. also i really like the look of diadema. any pics you could put up please?

The colours change so much its crazy, sometimes she is solid white with red squiggles and black bar other times she has a green shimmer a bit like a GT on a brown base with the black bar. And the eyes go right from pale orange to dark red.

I think..... my plan is to let the pikes grow more and then move them over then once the 10g is empty try them. But then if my current female has settled and wont accept them is it worth the risk?

I kind of just want an other cichlid but totally stumped for ideas and a bit scared to try anything new after what happened to the G.Surinimensis I tried to rescue :(

yes i read about your suri, its a real shame they are very nice fish. also if your thinking of just gaining a few more cichlids i would not go for any more nics. but possibly go for something along the lines of.... hmm i would try something like off the wall, like green terror? i dunno but i will scratch my head and havea a think. also what about a panda uaru? amazing fish.

haha I wonder what made you suggest the pandas :p Nah I think things like GTs and Uarus are too big for my tank its only 240 liter was thinking of an other Acara, my LFS has some wild Aequidens Rondoni in that are from the same wild shipment as my A.Diadema but like my A.Diadema, but worse abosolutley 0 information on them.

**update** - decided after more miffedness about my fish tank. Im going to rehome every thing apart from my Nic and Plecs and start again. The tank is just not looking how we want it - from both my girlfriends view who wants a tank full of activity and me as a hobbyist. When I tweak stocking ideas I just know if it was someone elses tank I would say it could go wrong so yeah... time to start over for me I think.

So if you want an A.Diadema, C.Regini, Anostomus Ternetzi or Pictus cats and you live near hull/east yorkshire let me know

post the cats to me:D you know their getting a good home! and i know how you feel i often think about rehoming everything and doing either african cichlids or get an oscar.

Where abouts are you? If they are going to a good home you can have the lot tbh.

Oh how I wish I lived closer, I would have just loved the A.Diadema, it would have been brill in my 400l shame hubby was only up yor way last week and could have picked it up. I have always admired the picture of it. Just as a thought to add to your ponderings, Ellioti they are a lively addition to a tank. I would also say to think again with female nics, beautiful as they are I have 2 in the 400l tank and even with loads of space and places to hide they are starting to have a bit of a dig at one another, nothing too serious as yet as the 2 male convicts seem to keep them from having a go at each other.

Hmmmm by chance star I am down your "way" in Febuary. How close do you live to Silverstone racetrack? If you can take her I would be over the moon!!! The more I think about rehoming her the worse I feel, I just feel really selfish but I would def trust you with her and would be very happy to bring her to you if its not too far out of the way or if you could meet us somewhere? I dont know much about the area (or any where outside of Yorkshire :p) or alternatively would your other half be anywhere near me again soon?

Silverstone is about 60 miles from me, bit of a detour lol. I doubt my finaces would stretch though as we are struggling covering the dogs chemotherapy at the moment, BUT if I manage to sell some more Ellioti before February I could possibly put that towards her, she is such a beautiful fish and I am sure if I asked hubby really really nicely we could sort meeting you somewhere along your route to Silverstone. (plus its my Birthday in February he he he)
