Mt First Spawn

I am hoping to find something good when I get home in a little while. If not, I have a couple HM baby boys and their sisters and as soon as they get bigger I plan on trying them. I am at my wits end. I cannot believe that both of these boys were egg eaters. My first spawn (or second for that matter), have not turned out as I would have liked.

Shame. What are the conditions of your tapwater? Mines like liquid rock and I am wondering if you add something to soften it up a bit?

Have you thought about dosing the spawning tank with an anti-fungal at 1/3-1/2 strength of the normal dosage? I find this works well with my egg-layers and livebearer fry, but to be honest, I've not bred bettas so I don't know if that would be detrimental to their eggs.

I'm in Miami, FL and am curious to see successful home breeding in FL, as I always thought my water quality made it out of the question. Obviously not. I'd love to eventually spawn bettas.

Since we are leaving for a mini vacation tomorrow, I decided that I would wait till we returned before I started conditioning the next pair. I am just hoping all my bettas (probably over 30) will be ok without being fed for about 3 days. My 21 year old son will be home, but telling him to do something is like talking to a wall and even if he did feed them, I don't know if he woud do it right. So when I get home and get ready to start another spawn, I will let everyone know.
