I was faffing around with my tank when i noticed that my albino ruby shark had a red patch under her eye which freaked me out, now upon closer inspection it sort of looks like she has scraped herself on something [maybe the castle as she is a little small for her now] but i wanna know what you think

she's still eating and lively, it wasn't there yesterday, i just don't wanna get it infected =\

could you tell me the best treatment too [uk]?

please help shes my favourite fish! ='[

What size tank is she in?

It doesnt look like a scrape to me, what is it's texture like, is it a solid pink colour or does it go white or red in some areas ?

Water stats would be great too.

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

I would half dose some melafix.

thanks guys

I've dosed melafix now, how long until i can see results?

Its 15 gallons [im upgrading in 2 weeks] with 5 baby platys and a swordtail

I'm not sure what my stats were but I've just done a massive water change of at least 50% and i will test them soon once the tank has settled

WE don't know if melafix will cure whatever your fish has and to me it looks like poor water quality related bacterial infection.

Melafix is a generall medicine that can be used to slow symptoms or repair fins/scales after the origionall infection gas passed.

I think we really need some water stats.

API Freshwater master test kits include everything you will need and can be bought at most LFS or pets@home.

If you cannot get this then your LFS shoul be able to test your water for you.

What size is the tank in litres/ gallons and what is it's stocking?

It says 10 gal in your sig.
Take a sample of your water to the lfs and ask them to write the readings down for you.

sorry that needed updating!

I have a test kit and tested yesterday, its a mature tank and my ammonia was a little off but nitrite at 0, ph at 6.8, so i did a water change again, and tested again and it was still the same, then i realised that my gravel needed cleaning so i did another change today and a thorough gravel clean so now my water is good

I test weekly so my water quality couldnt be that poor at least not for an extended period

Ive noticed that it seems like there is a small chunk taken out from under her eye, which led me me to believe that she had caught herself on something, like i said ive dosed melafix today and yesterday...

she doesnt seem ill though, no listlessness still eating and charging round the tank

I have read 20 gallons, she is in a 15, she was a baby when i bought her and im upgrading within 2 weeks, the tank is not over crowded with plenty of hiding spots and she is really happy

the tank is only overstocked once you can't control the tests!

If you're filter can't control the waste produced

OR You're fish are uncomfortable with the number of tankmates they have.

Not trying to be awkward, just clarifying.

yes indeed its true, i couldn't find the words to describe it!

In which none of that applies to my tank

I just need help....

nope none at all! acts the same as always.....may seem like im being paranoid but she seems sad. If there was something strange i would say that she spends more time in the castle...oooo i dont know =[
