I am treating a small 40ltr tank for a bacterial disease at the moment and have just set up a 140ltr. Would it be possible to move some of the media into the 140 to help the cycle or should i wait incase i move the disease with the media. The 40ltr tank has been set up for 6 months.

I wouldn't risk moving the media just yet. I'd be concerned that whatever you've been treating the tank with has affected the good bacteria in your media.

im treating the tank with myxazin .as it says on the tin to keep biological filters running you would think that it would only cure the disease in the fish but it kills bacteria so surely it will kill all the good bacteria in my filter.heres hoping i dont have to cycle my 40ltr again. its day 3 of treatment hopefully it clears by next weekend.

Good luck to you on clearing the disease. Please keep us posted about what happens with your filters!

If you have a filter with questionable media, do not share that with any other tank. I am fully aware that is not what you would like to hear but it is the best advice I can give you Bart. Each of us must decide whether or not to use existing established filter media to jump start a new tank filter. IMO anything but ideal filter media should be avoided for any new tank/filter.

thanks old man.i will take your advice.its just not worth it to save a couple of days and contaminate a new tank.this is a great site for a brand new fish keeper.thanks again.
