Down a dark hole... Down a dark hole... with an ow
hi everyone

not posted in ages but pop in and lurk quite a lot :look:

fish are great, no problems in ages but it looks like we are moving house in a couple of months (yipeeee!)

the place we are going is a five minute walk away so things would be quite simple except our pine fish tank does not match the new houses wooden floors. we need to sand it back down and re-stain it.

so the options are:

1 -bag the fish, move them, keep as much water as we can and put ALL the fish in our little quarentine tank (10 gallons i think) for 24 hours while we sand the big tank stain it and let it dry. Then net the fish out the little tank back into their proper tank

2-bag the fish, keep as much water as we can, set the tank up on the kitchen table, sand and stain the big tank stand and lid. once done bag the fish again, drain the tank again then set it all back up.

hope that made some sense!

what do you guys think? does anyone have any other ideas? cant really imagine all those fish in one tiny tank, but would it be less stressfull than being bagged up twice in 24 hours? All details are in my profile

all thought and ideas welcome

thanks for looking

I would buy a larger 20 gallon plastic container for a 5er - keep them in there until the tank is sanded and stained and properly dry with no fumes haning around. Just add filter and heater to the container and all should be fine :)

thanks for the reply

saw some the other day by chance and thought they would be usefull for the move.

really should only take 24 hours as we can do it all in the garden.

do you think a clean with some boiling water would be enough? I hate using any sort of chemical in the tank and would hate it more so on plastic as there tends to be more places for residue to get stuck.

great idea, thought there must of been a simpler way!

I would say just hot and not boiling water is absolutely fine - boiling water can sometimes react with some plastics, so wouldn't chance it :)
