Hi,

At the end of June I am moving house - the new house will be a 100mile journey from where I currently live so I need some advice on how to safely transport my goldfish.

I know she can't go in her tank as it is too heavy to move, so I wondered whether there was something else that can be used? I have a small plastic tank she could go in, but don't know if this is ideal.

Thanks

Laura

Bag it and go for it.

People forget that fish travel like miles all over the world in small, tiny bags for hours and even days.

Make sure you don't feed her for at least two days, preferably three, before moving day. That'll help reduce the amount of poop in the bag :)

Get the largest fish bag you can beg/borrow/buy, and fill it with no more than one third water; the air is just as important when fish are in transport.

Good luck on your journey.

I'm also moving soon.  About 6 houses down on the same street.  Luckily for me my sister bought my current house and wants to do a salt tank of her own.  So she will be housing my fish until my new tank is installed, my new sump is built, and everything cycles.

A small plastic tank is fine, so will be the big plastic bag suggestion with lots of air. I've often travelled several hours with fish and they made it just fine. Make sure you keep the filter's media wet too during transport.
The best of luck, the fish should be fine.
Make sure you acclimate to the new water if you are not keeping some of the old one, as if it's very different it can be stressful.
