How do

Ive recently had wood floor fitted and ive had to completely empty my tank and put fish in a small tank upstairs.

Ive therefore refilled my tank, with the existing 305 Fluval External Filter.

As im using the same media filter, will the tank take as long to cycle

if you have used the same media as was in the filter before, not let it dry out or anything in between then the tank shouldn't cycle at all regardless of how much new water you've used. the filter bacteria live attached to the surfaces in the filter, not free swimming in the water.

Righto

Its an exterbnal cfilter so was full of water the whole time

The initially went cloudy hence why I asked

I agree, you probably just stirred up some of the debris in the filter and it shot around the tank, clouding it up a bit.

[ ...Just 'cause you've made me think about it... Luckily, those good bacteria are tenacious, once they get hold of their media anchors in your filter. As I understand it, drying out would be the first thing to start killing them, then, next to that, not having any water flow to get oxygen and food would start a 1 to 2% die-off at about the day mark, or, even if you had water flow through the filter but had no ammonia in it for them, then they would start to die back a little more slowly than if the water flow had stopped. ... the current picture of good bacteria die-off scenerios in my head, just in case any of you members feel like improving on my picture!... lol]
