I have a 10 gallon that is housing about 55 guppy fry. I also have another 10 gallon with the guppy moms and a male, as well as a female fiddler crab. Also have a 55 gallon with what you see in my signature.

Once the fry are old enough, I'd like to distribute some to the other 10 gallon and the 55 gallon. My question is, if the temps are all the same couldn't I just net them and move them right over?

Temperature and water parameters have to be the same for that to work without a problem.. although realistically, the differences are unlikely to be high enough to cause most healthy fish any problems anyway.

It might still be a good idea to acclimatise them even if its only for a short while, i did when i moved my fish from one tank to another, i would certainly keep the tank lights off for a few hours.
Still guppies are hardy fish so they may cope perfectly if you just net them and move them straight over.
Your call i suppose.

I normally just net fish when moving them from one of my tanks to another as I use the same tap water for all so assume PH and chemical composition must be the same in each tank.never had any problems.Never had any problems. Naturally all new arrivals are floated and acclimatised with gradual addition of tank water for 40mins

Unless you keep them heated to different temperatures or alter the pH in one of the tanks, I don't see any reason not to do that. I do just that when I want to move my fish around. :D

As I mentioned, this is for the guppy fry when they're a bit older. They were born in this water so I wouldn't think it would harm them just to quickly shuttle them over.

No problem I use to do it all the time and guppies are hardy and dime a dozen once the second gen starts breeding you will have more than you can handle

When moving fish among tanks of similar temperatures, I try to minimize the time in the net. If I have been doing something strange to the water in one tank, like mixing it with RO, I will do a drip acclimation instead.

i just net my guppy fry then lob them in one of the other tanks lol no acclimatising and minimal time in then net

This is my plan. The "new" tank is mere inches away so it would take a split second to move them over.

Thanks everyone!
