I have set up my new tank now... ( as a upgrade to bigger tank) left it for 24hrs... i've added the aqua safe...been 24 hrs aswell... i tested the water and all the levels are perfect...... about 2 hours ago I added the aqua easy balance.... now I am wondering shall I add the aqua safe start (live bacteria one) and then wait maybe an hour, I will put my the whole of old filter in new tank, add the old ornaments (because I heard it would then instantly cycle..) and then can I add the fish today?...

do you think that would be a good idea?

fish are

- danio's
- guppy's
- small fantail

hardy fish

Thanks for any advise..!

What are the size differences in the tanks?

You should be alright moving everything over as long as you immediately move over the filter as well. (The current filter with its current seeded media is what is important - there is beneficial bacteria on the media and all of the internal surfaces of the filter - the tank decorations won't effect you in any way.)

Current tank is 35 litres (with fuval internal filter for a 55 litre tank, new tank is a Juwel Rio 125 litres (has its own filter).. so quite a large difference...

no the new tank needs to be cycled, (read the beginners resource centre for more info)

also, fantail im assuming means godlfish, which need large, well filtered, temperate tanks, the rest of your fish are tropical. yes they can live together, but they wont thrive or live for very long.

If the OP maoves all the old filter media, either the whole filter, or puts the media in the new filter, the new tank won't need cycling (assuming that the old filter media is cycled, of course).

It's filters that cycle, really, not tanks. Try to think of the filter media as being 'paired' with the fish, and not the tank or filter itself. Keep them (the media and the fish) together, and you can move them from tank to tank to your heart's content (within reason; not every week, lol!)

the old filter is fully cycled.. so if i for example put the aqua safe start, waited an hour, then put the old ornaments in new tank along with the complete old filter (all of it) in the new tank, and added the fish today.. would that be possible?... or should i just wait?..

thanks

+1

I shall be doing combining the fish and cycled filters from my 620T with those in the 100l plastic tub to a newly won 4-foot tank over the next few days (all being well). Will be checking the water stats regularly for the first week or so, but in theory all should work fine.

You will.

This new tank is approximately 33 gallons - - the fantail takes up about 20 gallons of your stocking. This new tank is pretty much fully stocked.

What are your exact stocking numbers?

Yes, you can do that; there's no need to wait. Don't feed for a day to let everything settle in :good:
